Looking for information: 70s Geneve Dynamic and an unknown model c 1960

Hi Omega Forum members,

I found your site while trying to research two watches I found of my dad's while going through boxes in our basement the other day. He told me the gold-plated one was his first Omega watch (c 1960?), and the Dynamic he couldn't recall when or where he got it.

I'd love to know more about these watches, because my dad would like to sell them (I'm helping him clear out the basement and doing the online listing for him), but we didn't know where to begin in terms of prices.

I did read about the Dynamic a bit on one site, but was having trouble finding one that was not automatic, like ours. And I can tell nothing about the older watch, as it has no distinct marks that I can see to help me identify it. I may like to try and talk him in to letting me keep the watches depending on what I learn here, and I appreciate your knowledge and any information you might be able to share with me!

Best to you all, and Happy new year.

The Dynamic looks fine. The model is likely 136.0033 The other looks suspect to me. The font is later than the logo so maybe it’s been redialled. The brassing on the lugs and the caseback marks don’t look consistent with Omega output, but it could be a local case maybe. Remove the back to find out more. Don’t try that on the Dynamic though as it’s a front loader.

Thank you so much padders. I just needed a starting point to know if what we had was genuine and good. Thank you so much for the model number. Your expert eye is greatly appreciated!

Happy New Year!

I can’t tell you anything about the automatic and I agree with @padders about the likely reference for the Dynamic. The Bull's Eye dial is probably the most collectible of the Mk 1s as it is the quintessential bold design of the watch - they were meant to stand out! If looking to sell the Dynamic, don’t do anything to it - just sell as is. Prices on eBay are all over the place on these, but I would say it should be good for anywhere between £200-350. They do have a loyal following and, as with so many vintage references, prices are creeping up.

I don’t know if this is the site you found, but the essay by Desmond on these Dynamics is well worth a read!

Thanks wilderbeast! This was the site I had found, but as a newcomer to these watches I really couldn't place where my dad's watch fit in!

I will see about opening up that other one, and maybe share some more photos. I appreciate you telling me to sell it as is, because I wouldn't know where to begin with doing anything to it : ) Honestly, I wish it were a bit smaller because I would keep it for myself (I'm a tiny lady with a tiny wrist and it's giant on me - but I love it!).

Yes, it’s a shame it won’t be worn in the family, but sometimes things don’t suit. That article I’ve seen before and it does give a nice intro to the model. My advice not to do anything with it is just that servicing the watch, which would need to be done by a pro, will not add the value you spend onto the watch. Sell it as “service history unknown” and let the new owner deal with it!

@padders We opened up the watch and this was inside. What do you think based on what you see and the photo above showing the face? Thank you so much in advance for your help and knowledge.

Yours is a reference LU6304, an American market watch.

@X350 XJR could you tell me the difference between and American market watch and the alternatives? I am a complete newcomer here and my knowledge is very limited. I notice this watch doesn't say "Swiss Made" like the other LU6304s I am seeing. What does this mean?

So it is a local cased model as as noted above by the Jag Man, the J means the case was made in the USA (by Jonell I think) and the Swiss movement cased up there. As such the watch is genuine but maybe a little less desirable than an all Swiss piece. You would still expect Swiss on the dial of one of these, that and the style of font which looks more like 1970s maybe means there is a suspicion it has been redialled/repainted at some point. It looks like it needs a service pretty badly. Even so It’s still worth a few hundred bucks so not junk at all.

Thank you so much @padders. My dad does want to sell this one, so this is helpful in knowing how to tell a potential buyer accurate information. I really appreciate your knowledge. Hope you have a great day!
