@Maskelyne - I wish I could look at it right now and measure the diameter. It is in a wardrobe in my parents house in Melbourne. I am in Los Angeles until....

I promise I will get a picture up as soon as I can.

I never thought any of these Longines watches would ever be worth anything.

Ranfft is more of a guide than a comprehensive catalog. The 27M can be found with either 15 or 17 jewels, as with most of Longines' time-only calibers. Cal. 27.O ("O" standing for "or") was reserved for solid gold cases and therefore had higher end features like the Breguet overcoil hairspring and 17 jewels.

I see, very informative, thank you.

Oh well, so much for my idea. I'm not too surprised. It's pretty common to see variations of the same movement with different jewel counts, depending on when it was made, and to where it was exported. Roland's archive is an extraordinary piece of work, but it doesn't necessarily have every variation.

Ok, just like Omega and several other manufacturers did. The site is very informative.

- Looking forward to se it! In my case (!) I am not in this for the money. It has been my passion and interest since the 80´s and it´s the history of a fine timepiece with the skilled craftsmanship connected to a beautiful case and dial that gets me excited - if you get my point.

I picked up the watch today! The crystal is cracked and needs to be replaced. A scratched crystal can make the dial look like it´s redialed or heavily damaged. Here are some high resolution pictures in different illumination setting. I think the dial is stunning - made in 1947!

Wow! Talk about a difference between seller’s photos and real life!

That dial is gorgeous. Any @janice&fred doubts that I entertained are gone: that is no redial.

Congratulations!

Thanks for all kind replies. Based on the sellers photo the dial looked rather sloppy, but I could see that it was genuine. The fonts and the text was correct. It´s quite hard sometimes to asses a dial when the crystal is damaged. But I must say, most humbly, that I get better for every watch I asses. I find it very exciting to buy a watch, receiving it, and find that it looks much better than the picture showed.

Now I will leave it to the watchmaker and I will return with new photos soon.
