L888.4
Hi. How does this movement compare with, say Omega 2500d? That movement is great for me, but I'm thinking of trading the Seamaster for a Longines Spirit which is aesthetically more pleasing to me.
Just thinking about it...
Thanks in advance.

Interesting question. I would also like to know the answer. I have an Omega Seamaster I purchased new in 2018 with the 2500D. It’s been outstanding.
I just purchased a Longines 43mm Conquest. I’ve only had it a few days. So far seems great. I called Longines and gave them my serial number to find out which movement it has. I was told it has the L888.5. My understanding is that it’s identical to the L888.4 only without the COSC certification. Which I think means it’s the top grade. It has the silicon balance spring , which the 2500D does not have.
I am also curious as to how they compare

Longines now occupies the same price segment that Omega was in, back when the transition from 1120 to co-axial 2500 was in motion. I remember getting my 2500 caliber Seamaster 2220.80 back in 2011, for less than the sticker price of a Longines spirit.

Given the price, I'd expect the same (if not even higher) level of performance given we've advanced 10 years in watchmaking technology since then. I'm sure it'll be a trusty timekeeping for years and years.

Have you seen the watch in person though? I saw one at a AD recently, and found the applied stars to be too flashy for a pilot watch. It's a lot of bling, depending on the lighting condition! I personally think the applied stars work better with the sunburst blue dial, and would've preferred Longine use non-shiny painted stars (or no stars at all) on the black dial.

I would like to know is L888.4 shock and temp resistan as 8900 is as they both use silicon hairspring? I understand coaxial vs standard escapment but if I understand it correctl resistance to magnetism and shock is from silicon itself, or is it?

I am person that wears one watch for long time and I own Globemaster and Spirit. I like look of the Spirit little more but I feel that I somehow downgrade if I choose Spirit over Globemaster.
