I'm not a big fan of this or the FOIS. You would think that Omega would at least get the lollipop correct. I don't actually own a 2998 with lollipop (YET) but I'm fairly certain that in the early 2998s the lollipop disc passed directly over the Omega logo. Surprised Omega botched this up.

C' mon man, this is 2016, these days nothing is going to get in the way of a company's logo!

I wouldn't call it botched, its not a 2998, its a tribute piece not intended to be identical but to create a feel of nostalgia.

Feeling of Nostalgia?? For what? A Rolex Daytona?

would that bezel fit an original case? ::stirthepot::

Sure, an original FOIS case no problem

among the FOISes, I prefer the original as it feels more like an honest re-interpretation of the original.
Completely agree

Have any post 145.022-69 Speedies ever been produced with a DON? I can't recall any.

Edit: The Silver Snoopy has one.

Not sure if it's the lighting, or the picture or possibly it's a pre production model, but it looks cheap to me. The blue colour, bezel font don't pop like I'd expect.

I don't tend to like gold watches but somehow I prefer the Sedna version.

I agree. The font appears cheap, completely lacking in any style. In no way does this bezel resemble the flair of the original base 1000 lettering. This new version looks like it was printed of a lable machine.

I guess I like that they realize how sought after the straight lugs are and they're trying to bring a somewhat faithful interpretation to the masses at a lower price point. As hard as it can be for us to realize, the vast majority of watch buyers may like vintage aesthetics but would never want to dip their foot in the water / pay the ever-increasing prices to own a true 2998.

Now, that said - I'm not a fan of the color scheme and also don't like the blue minute track around the edge. Feels like I'd get tired of it really quickly.

I appreciate the effort, but it just leaves me empty. They have many of the right elements present, but it just doesn't all tie together. I realize panda dials are hot right now, but the contrasting minute track just busies everything up. Had they made this with a black dial and vintage lume (I don't mind vintage lume and think it looks good on the SM300), I think it would have been / will be a much bigger hit.

And I don't see why they don't just reproduce everything verbatim with vintage Speedy's on fire right now, especially 2998's and the rest of the straight lugs, why wouldn't Omega capitalize on that? It would offer a real alternative to so many people that are terrified of vintage but see the great pics everywhere, or those that want a 2998 at a fraction of the price.

I love it. I'd be a buyer if I was not already over committed.
