As I said: To make the case more stable, often male lugs and female springbars are used. That doesn't mean that all the watches from that era have them. In fact, many have not.
But look at the cases of that era. Many are very thin. For example the UG uni compax 124103 has a very thin case and male lugs.
Noted and agreed. Just wanted to point out that even some gold Tri’s from that era did in fact have holes and male springbars. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

Question about case work, specifically drilled lugs. I've used this board as a reference on a bunch of different topics regarding these early UG chronographs and haven't been able to find a conversation on this subject. Browsing the web, I've come across a lot of examples of 1940s era tri compax that look pretty spot-on correct outside of the drilled lugs. Did UG ever do it? Maybe later on at a client's request? If not, any idea why so many have been adulterated in that specific way when they seem like they were left alone otherwise? I'm finding this confusing because it seems like such a minor aesthetic point when a dial/case look great otherwise, but meaningfully effects the value of the watch all the same.

Thanks!
I own 6 TriCompax for that era none have female spring bars and 4 of the 6 have drilled holes.I think some of wether drilled holes or not depends on the reference ?

State of the Tri collection.
And a pretty good poker hand I’d say..four of a kind! 😉

Nice quadruple!
Do I see a soft spot for metal indices?
You still need a lumed dial!

Ha, probably true - and the most recent YG pick up on the bottom right is the "applied numerals" I've been lusting after for so long (the numerals on the rose in the lower left, and the steel in the upper right, appear to be "pressed" out of the dial itself if that makes sense - not actually applied onto/through the dial).

While I love the look of so many of the lumed dials (and hands) on the old Tri's from the 1940s, it's also safe to say that I think I'm done at this point (I still value my marriage more than my watches...!) 😗😟😉

My Tri Compax. Orginally owned by my Grandfather since the 1940s. Bought it at a jeweler in Hamburg, Germany. The watch has never been restored.

Love it. I have to say that this could be the first family owned from new Tri I’ve seen here. Reference? I do hope that you service the movement though...

Beautiful. Your grandfather has/had impeccable taste. Congrats to both of you! And post a wrist shot when time permits. She’s a beauty!
