Seth Thomas circa 1865-70.

Top glass is original or "of the era", it is wavy, the bottom glass must be a replacement.

"Crown Glass" to match original is still available if you wished to change.

Group Opinion Please

What do you think of this as a replacement scene? It is probably from the 1920-30's harkening back to a romanticized time but seems to capture the 1860's era well.
I've been searching all local haunts and online, for several years now, and this is about the most authentic looking reverse painted scene I have come across. Very 3-dimensional and seems to complement the hand painted flowers on the dial. It would have to be cut down a bit.

I'm not a clock guy but should the bottom scene "always" have an opening to show the swinging pendulum?

I bought this maybe a year or so ago and not wedded to using it. This clock is approaching the time for its' COA and at that point, I was wanting to have a replacement.

So, what are your comments pro and con. I paid $8 so you will not hurt my feelings.

1958 so probably vintage, fitted to my substantially newer motorhome 😉

One of my favorite clocks: a 24h clock combined with a globe to offer a world time display.

It was produced by JLC in the late 30s/early 40s.

That's a great piece, never seen one before.

P.S. Dibs!

An 1895 Ansonia "Boston Extra", vitreous enamel on cast iron case, vitreous enamel dial centre and chapter ring, gilding in exquisite condition for a 120 year old clock. My wife's grandmother bought it in the Pacific North West, new, in 1895. All original, alt hough I did replace the tired old mainsprings last time I serviced it.

I'd leave it as is Tex, while it may not be the original glass, it is a suitable design for that clock. I think the girl, lovely as she is, doesn't suit the clock and you would miss seeing the pendulum (unless she lifted her skirts 😲)

Similar Ansonia, and I think still on the same springs, I'll give it some TLC this year. One solid clock!

Todays latest delivery got me thinking, dangerous I know 😉 but what is a clock ?
A watch you wear on your wrist or on a chain in your pocket so how would you define what is often called a convertible or purse watch ?
It stands on its own when open so perhaps it just may be considered a small travel clock 🤔

I've heard of some of those called "purse watches". But your question is good... I suppose it could be both, depending.

Pre 1922 Seth Thomas Regulator #2. Dial may be for another ST, I think it should have a seconds register, but it is paint on metal.

Did they all have a seconds register? My clockmaker said the movement would accommodate a seconds hand.

I think it is oak.

Scottish long case clock from 1830. I bought this last year when on holiday and managed to bring it home with me in the car! 😀

Sorry about the image quality, it was a snap take on my phone.
