Hey folks,

I figured this one might be an appropriate training exercise, as it certainly combines a few uncommon features. Just to be clear: I‘m not purchasing it, it’s simply for practice / discussion.

The watch is currently available from a dealer who I’ll leave unnamed. Pics are all from them.

Share your thoughts, what do you think - is this one legit?

Interesting subject matter @MtV.

Assessment not made any easier by being a French production case - so (if anything like English Constellation cases) the case style could be anachronistic compared to Swiss cases.

However - Doesn’t explain why (or how) there appears to be a (correct looking) yellow gold medallion in a solid pink gold case.

IMO the dial was redone:
Crosshair is too thick
"Chronometer" instead of "Chronometre"
Missing I-dot

The vertical cross hair shouldn’t touch the ‘e’.
In fact, it may be the angle of the pics but all of the script looks to be up slightly on the right hand side.
The minute haches look a little ‘mean’.

The dial looks to have been stripped - and presuming it is meant to be a pink gold dial, I can’t remember seeing a solid gold dial with a sunburst effect.

It's being marketed as a "salmon dial"...
Ah!
‘Special order’ - obviously….
🤦

Not a spécialiste at all here but comparing with my constellations : the y of officially is closer to the crossline and the e of constellation too…
And I have no RG one but indeed I am surprised to see à Yellow gold médaillion here.
If I were to buy I would check those

Can you remember seeing ANY 50s pie pan dial with sunburst effect…?

Redial
The “n’s” in Constellation are uniform, which should not be the case.

redial. Crosshair looks a bit off, and that yellow gold medallion doesn’t make much sense.

I'm sad it isn't legit. It looks great from a little distance.

That said, the MOY test plus the 12 oclock marker being cattywompus immediately made me suspect a redial.

Since it isn't an Omega cased watch, I can't make conclusions on the medallion itself, its a bit odd, but who knows what the french were thinking (said comment applies to... forever I guess?)?

That said, a rose-gold Pie-pan case + dial (though I prefer date!) is IMO the nicest configuration.

Would agree with this. I’m on the hunt for a nice rose gold example to pair with my original rose gold beads of rice bracelet that I’ve been holding for 2 years

There is one gorgeous one that is RG-capped date pie-pan on Ebay, but the guy wants $2500 for it. Seems a bit overpriced and more than I'd want to spend, but boy is it tempting!

I saw that one and agree the dial and case are flawless, but it’s the wrong movement. I don’t believe the 2943 ref came with a 564 movement, and should have been the 504

Ah! I hadn't noticed that. I was still stuck on the dial/case photos and never made my way to the movement 😁

TBH I don't know if that would bother me, but it definitely makes the $2500 even less realistic.

Is there a pic or is that a typo?

It’s a tough call for sure especially with the condition of the dial and case. I just keep telling myself be patient, be patient, be patient.

I came across the rose gold bracelet two years ago and purchased it because I knew they were hard to find in good condition. Now I’m getting impatient in finding something to put it on. All the better, as my bank account wouldn’t allow it right now anyways.
