I think the limited funds applies to many of us. That's what this thread is all about. Showing off great watches purchased for relatively small $$
That Gruen is a nice pick-up. I really like the dial. What size is the case?

it's 33mm w/o crown.

Arrived today. 1957 Bulova I posted about last week. I believe it's a President model with 4 small diamonds at 12, 3, 6, 9.
The lugs are between 17 and 18mm. It arrived on the the Omega BOR bracelet seen.
Model 1036, date code? 12-70. #12 end links. A major score at <$40 shipped. I will not remount the BOR on this watch as the end links dont fit this case well and will chew up the lugs.

As arrived:

After some quality time soaking in hot soapy water and cleaning with a old toothbrush tasked with bracelet cleaning duties:

Oh yeah, the watch, LOL, I'll pick up a cheapie strap and wear test it. Maybe get the crystal buffed.

Great score, what can I say

Anyway with regards to cleaning, did the warm soapy water clean out all the grim? I'm wondering it could be sufficient for flexi band bracelets too

Thanks!
As far as cleaning goes, the Omega bracelet was not too dirty. It had been cleaned in the not too distant past. The hot water/toothbrush treatment worked fine. I did not dis-assemble the removable links out of sheer laziness last night. I will do a more thorough job next week when I have the time to do it right. I'm planning on buying an inexpensive ultra-sonic soon.

On stretch bands, the hot water/anti-bacterial soap does work, but wear an apron! My technique is to soak for about 10 mintues and then stretch the band open about 3 links at a time and scrub with the toothbrush vertically to clean out the gunk. Even after 3 repeats of this and a rinse, some dried black stuff will still pop out from inside the links.

My latest adddition to the <$50 club. Came in shipped at $50.50 so I'll make an exception for 50 cents.
Certina New Art Automatic circa 1966. This was probably the filthiest watch and band I've received so far. But it seems to run well, and arrived on a very nice Fischer stainless steel bracelet.
As arrived:

After some cleanup:

All told I'm happy with the purchase, but I'll be happier after a new crystal and a checkup at the watchmaker.

That bracelet is the worst I've seen yet. You could clone the previous owner from that! 🤮

How's the dial? It is difficult to see if any of the scratches are there or on the crystal.

@ConElPueblo the Dial appears fine. All the damage is to the crystal. I just hope the movement wasn't toasted along with the crystal. It's running OK at the moment, but it goes to the spa next week.

Okay,

I'm going to dig out all my dead junk and living horrors and list them on EBay under the strapline "Learn to fish for Under Fifty": I think you might be surprised......

I enjoy seeing uncommon models like this.

Well that one is certainly interesting, more shapes and angles than you can shake a stick at.

This just arrived yesterday $34.88 with free shipping. Described as recently serviced and is keeping good time over eighteen hours so far. I am looking at straps for it right now.

Swap meet today. $40. Movement number is 955060. For the one online source I checked, that would make it a 1881 year. But it looks exactly like a 1941 currently for sale on Ebay. I will need to reopen the case and send a movement pic.

It is definitely not from 1881. Is it running? If so that's a nice score.

It is running well. Have placed about 25 small turns on the crown and it will go for about 12 hours. I am thinking it is closer to 1941. I will recheck the serial number on the movement.
