So the Buick, or an Ed White....hmmm

one advantage with buying the Buick, no one will be asking why is running a second late...

By the same token, I appreciate @JwRosenthal ’s diver watch analysis. I think his tiers are a useful tool to provoke one’s own thought process, even though it’s an artificial construct. (Thank you for taking the time to put together that post! 👍)

Perhaps @JwRosenthal needs a website:

miscdivers101.com

Then we can site the chart when making an offer on eBay. "Clearly this diver is Tier II and in fair condition at best. So my offer of $325 is more than reasonable according to the miscdiver101 price guide."

Lol! My tier system was just a thought exercise based in observation and logic- the later being contrary to this hobby.

Seriously, I have never been involved in a hobby like this where people play it so fast and loose with condition and damage is considered a virtue and not a flaw.

Not people in general, just sellers, and those who drink their Kool-Aid

Just came across a super deal on Rolex Forums:

Oh yeah priced to sell! (At approx 2x market rate? To who?!?!)

Pretty sure that same dealer got the boot from OF, don't recall the specifics though.

Ah yeah that sounds familiar. I don't care either way, I just got a good laugh at "priced to sell at $12k" like he's doing them a favor LMAO

I just saw FS post (in a different forum which shall be left anonymous for the sake of the seller) in which they justified their asking price by genuinely saying they were uninformed when they originally bought it - i.e., they're now asking over the common grey market retail for their fairly used example. ::facepalm1::

One thing that strikes me as odd is how can anyone put a price to anything when they claim no knowledge about the article being offered?

😕

Great point. I completely understand wanting to sell a watch and make a profit, but I feel like having knowledge is a prerequisite for asking a sensible price.

One thing I've been concerned about with our little hobby over the past couple years is that it's gotten so fashionable that it's attracted people that aren't really into it, but just see the prices and want to take part.

Didn't feel like creating a new thread just for this, but this ad is one of the nuttier ones I've seen in awhile; while it remains up, the original ad is here: https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/jwl/d/mission-viejo-intage-omega-speedmaster/7286985990.html

Copied here for posterity, and the lol's:
V 145.022 69intage Omega Speedmaster - $22,000 (Mission Viejo)
Excellent original condition. Professionally serviced. All functions work.

Dimensiones are approximate. Exact dimensions can be provided in mm.

We currently have several vintage watches and accessories including bracelets and boxes for sale.

No email. Text or call only. Thank you. (and now the pics, which clearly show two different watches, both with "issues")...
