Last minute change of heart …

I always thought the green dial AT150 would be my next piece. I told my SA at Toppers he better not sell it out from under me. I knew it was either that or (possibly) the new blue dial Seamaster 300 that I wouldn’t be able to resist.

Fast forward to last week. I went in to Toppers in Burlingame ready to buy. 90% sure on the AT with a 10% chance of switching to the 300.

Ended up buying neither. I didn’t love the 300 as much as I thought I would and although I love the AT, It didn’t speak to me like it had in the past. I reminded my SA that I think the AT is the perfect all around watch and if I could have just one piece, this would be it. He simply asked….”Do you ever see yourself with a one watch collection?”

Thats when it hit me. The AT does everything well, but nothing spectacular. He then simply said
“You need a speedmaster….you love Omega too much to not have one”.

I tried it on and I knew. Just received it today at my home in Utah, and I have zero doubt I made the right decision. Toppers is such a top notch establishment, everyone in there is passionate about watches and I couldn’t be happier. Maybe the green AT is next, but it wasn’t to be this time around.

Caution on Blue dials in the flight deck as they will deteriorate from the sun light.
Meet a pilot with the Blue Dial Rolex [ Submariner ? ] two tone.
He said the dial was always taking a beating in the air & had it replaced several times.
If you know about photography, blue filters out red, so the infrareds cook it.
Good chice on the speedmaster!
I worked @ CAL a few years back, instrument service.
The CEO Gorden is a watch enthusiasts, but I had left before he came on board.
Cheers Mike

No Omega collection is complete without a Speedy. Or more than one! Welcome to the club.

I get it now. It’s hard to say you are an Omega fanboy without it. Zero regrets !! The only “disappointment” was after years of admiring the presentation case and packaging contents of the 1861, the new one leaves a little to be desired.

I always thought all the extras you got was a nice touch. I like the integrated travel case of the 3861, but I prefer the old packaging (especially at this price point).

From what I hear….(I’m a UAL guy).

Gordon was quite the enthusiast on a lot of things …flight attendants included.

Thanks for the info on the blue watches Mike !
Cheers !

Congrats. I've had my 1861 for two years this month. I wear it everyday and love it more than the day I got it.
