Of course once you have a Speedmaster you will need a Seamaster, quickly followed by a Railmaster and will be unsatisfied until you get a Flightmaster which in turn will expose your need for an X33, this will cause you to see the necessity of getting a Constellation, upon gaining the Cony you will feel a void in your existence the can only be filled with a Ranchero it which point you will realise that life is meaningless without a De Ville and so it will go on ad infinitum……then you’ll want the pocket watches!
Ha! I know what you mean... luckily I've gone broke with all my other hobbies...

This path to enlightenment may even lead you to various distractions on your way, the number of these distractions is many and varied they have names such as UG, Longines, etc. But there is one that is to be avoided at all costs it is the embodiment of pure evil it’s name is Rolex
So as Omega tribesmen, are we naturally adverse to Rolex.? The good news is Rolex is well out of budget, and I prefer the Speedy over anything else I've seen.

IMO the previous generation caliber 1863 is a great gateway drug and can be had at a great price. Added benefit of being a Sapphire sandwich so you can stare longingly into the movement, along with some additional durability to the crystal. highly opinionated discussions between sapphire and hesalite though. Hesalite has some positives. Sapphire has some different positives. Eventually you will own both so no reason to fret.

They pop up here and c24 and many other places. Check the seller listings here for some great sellers.

Second hand 1861
Tried and tested over the years (3861 still has bugs that are coming out)

Strap monsters so be prepared to buy some straps over the years.

So would this be the 321? You prefer this over the 3861, what bugs are being discovered? Which would you say holds value?

Many of us own both (along with many other brands). The snark towards Rolex (and the forums that swoon over them) is more about the practices and ego of the company (and the people who swoon over them) rather than the product. Rolex makes a fantastic mass produced sport watch. Rare and exclusive they are not (over 1m watches a year)- but their marketing and sales tactics have been brilliant to make most of the world think they are.

@chef_rob , where are you located? You may be able to meet up with some other OF members and see both vintage and newer models, including some limited editions, etc. you will not find in an AD or boutique.

Here in the mid-Atlantic area of the US there is an annual gathering in December, usually near Baltimore. And there have been other gatherings in PA and in DC.

Also, there's a knife section here on OF, but it's mainly EDC/ hunting. But we do have an Australian kitchen knifemaker here on the forum, and he's already posted in this thread. The kitchen knife guys and gals have their own separate gatherings.

Hey! I'm near Aspen, Co. Would be really great to meet up with the Speedy community. Currently looking for a local AD but no luck so far.

Aspen? Seems like a great place to be a chef, and great place to see people with a lot of $$$ watches, but from what I remember there isn't a whole lot in that area as far as support for year-rounders. 'Course that was in '94, so that area has probably been build out a bit more, especially near the less expensive nearby ski areas like Snowmass. A quick Google search shows a handful of retailers and boutiques, as is typical in high-dollar resort areas. Probably not what you are looking for, but may be good for kicking as few tires. Avi and Co seems to be one that deals in used hi-end watches (their web site even shows a Speedmaster "Tintin" for sale)

The 1861 the model before they changed a few years ago.

They hold value as much as any Modern Speedmaster..

What bugs….🐜 there has been a few. Look down on the latest page you will be guaranteed to find one.

The running joke here, is that all the Billionaires are kicking all the Millionaires off Aspen Mountain so they all moved 'down valley' where the brokies like me live....
Thanks for the tip....search continues...

Having spent my childhood skiing in Aspen when the restaurants had sawdust on the floors, wagon wheel light fixtures- and everyone wore flannel unironically, this makes me sad.

Step dial, straight hands and twisted lugs - these are my main requirements towards a Speedy 😀 The other already gave you a lot of recommendations what to look at when buy used. I would probably look for 2010-2020 mint condition Speedy.

Btw - what watch houses your Poljot 3133? If it is a Strela or Sturmanskie, I would recommend not to sell it, as it complements a Speedy very well in the regard of "Cold war space race" topic.

I totally agree! Mine is the Sturmanskie Cosmonaut, '80's vintage. I'm a bit torn, just had it serviced, very cool piece but it does wear small on my wrist

Another way to look at it is: your dick will look bigger when you’re holding it whilst wearing a small watch!
Too bad I'm right handed..and wear my timepiece on my left....
