Jomashop horror story

Well I decided to get another Omega and saw a pre-owned seamaster professional chrono on jomashop at a good price. I ordered it and received it last Wednesday. On the 3rd day of wearing it the crown evidently fell off which I discovered an hour or so later. I contacted jomashop and they blew me off saying they wouldn't take it back. Their policy is 14 day return on pre-owned which I'm clearly within.
I'm calling my credit card company to dispute the purchase but who knows if that will.prove fruitful.

Why would they take it back? I think you just have to suck it up and get a new crown.
14 day return policy probably applies to items returned in the condition they were received.
If I sold you that watch I wouldn't be taking it back. Who knows what you did to it in the few days you owned it.
Not trying to be a dick...just saying.
What exactly did Jomashop tell you?

Grey dealers like that usually require that the plastic not have been removed to use that sort of return policy. Also unfortunately, their warranty doesn't cover damage to the crown, so you are likely SOL.

I'd suggest going to your local watchmaker and seeing if they can replace the crown for you at a reasonable price, and take this as a lesson why grey dealers kinda suck sometimes, you pay less in exchange for not having a guarantee on things like this.

The customer service rep simply said we don't take returns if parts are missing. I stated it has been on my wrist less than 3 days. How does a crown.. "fall off" is my question. I could understand a month maybe.. but 3 days.

Yeah, lesson learned. My first few watches were from regular dealers. Earlier this year I purchased a Panerai from them and the experience was pleasant and the watch is perfect. But I prefer Omegas and always loved this watch so I bought it... and an extended warranty.

Lesson.. learned

I’m sorry to hear this. Fwiw I had an orange PO crown do the same thing at an AD. They’re not designed well and you might score a goodwill repair and a nice travel pouch calling an AD. Not worth returning and that hassle imop.

I mean, it was pre-owned, so it really fell off over a few years 😀 It looks like the stem went with it? You just got unlucky it went right after you bought it. I guess this risk is for ALL used watches (Grey or otherwise).

Thanks for input all... I'm relatively new to the watch scene and this caught me off guard. Update... I emailed them that I'm contacting my credit card company to start a dispute and they just sent an email saying they are sending me an "inspection form".

Time will tell. Meantime I'll see if there any dealers within a days drive. I believe the closest is 4 hours away.

Appreciate the advice

Regardless of any possible restitution, get the model number. Check online and order an OEM crown and tube set. It’s not a very hard install and any Swiss tech can do it. Then pressure test. Maybe $150 for all.

the main thing is don’t wait on Joma.

Agree. That's the risk of pre-owned. Higher risk of something going wrong for the reduced price.

I know new Jomashop watches don't include the warranty cards but is your Seamster still under Omega warranty?

I recently bought a Seamaster privately and managed to strip the crown on day one. I think it was ready to go to begin with. Independent watchmaker was about $150 to fix it. Sucks but not the end of the world especially if you got a good deal on the watch. Worst part was being without the watch while being repaired.

Last Wednesday was the 30th. The date on your watch is the 24th. Had you not set the date when it arrived?

I’m not sure that you can fairly blame Jomashop for this. You purchased the watch used and, as I understand it, without a warranty. Jomashop has no idea what you may have done with the watch before you asserted your claim (I’m not implying that you did anything wrong). If the watch was running fine otherwise, I’d just have an independent watchmaker replace the crown and move on.

Joma DOES have a 4 year warranty on Omegas (used or not it seems!) watches, but it only covers the movement and 'manufacturing defects'.

This is an interesting discussion and I’m the fence as both positions seem to make sense. If I bought an expensive luxury watch and the crown failed I’d try to get Jomashop to make the deal good. Jomashop owns the watches, correct? Or is it consignment? Chrono24 is dealing directly w the private owner I think. Pls enlighten me?

Did the crown and stem both come out? If so, it's most likely a very simple fix, reinsert and tight detent. Nothing to get worked up about. Either have a local person fix it, or send it back and ask JS to fix it.

OP said he discovered the crown was missing after an hour so I'm assuming the crown is lost. He'll need to get a new crown (a little more expensive than just getting a watchmaker to put it back in).

It’s a couple hundred for a new crown but at least it’s a simple fix. Sorry to hear about the drama.
