It’s taking a month break, at which point it will come back and be monitored, if it goes the same way it will just get deleted entirely. This is and always has been a safe for work site, more than half of viewers are viewing from work. If you’re posting garbage that would get you in trouble with the HR department at a business you’re going too far and if it continues that way it will be straight up removed. Absolutely sick of having to deal with the same idiots doing the same garbage over and over and enough is enough. If you want a sewer to take a dump in, there’s facebook for that, end of story.

Let’s just have written jokes like the beginning…it’s the pictures that cause all the issues…

I totally get the frustration caused by the same idiots, but as my old boss used to say "I'm not going to shoot the herd because of one guy". Would it be better to ban any idiot doing the same garbage over and over rather than eliminating a thread enjoyed by so many?

How about “Community Governance?”

In lieu of that, what about the regular joke posters agree, as a group, with the Moderators, on a list of rules and regulations for posting, that we cut and paste from a template to the top of each new page as it occurs. Anyone can do it, it’s whomever sees the new page first.

I think this would cut down significantly on the occurrence of inappropriate posts. What say you all?
Count me in.

There are a lot of picture jokes that are quite benign. It’s what’s in the picture that can cause a problem at work.

I don’t see how laying some basic ground rules would impinge on anyone’s comedic expression. How about this:

“Don’t post any written joke or picture, that you wouldn’t feel comfortable having your critical boss looking over your shoulder and viewing.”

I think some explicit written guidelines in the sticky would be good. Most people won’t read it but it should be established since it has become a problem. I’m curious what caused the problem. When it comes to comedy I’m just about impossible to offend but given the context of where we are I’ve seen some things that made me raise an eyebrow. Primarily sexual in nature. After all, we’re not in a comedy club where anything goes (or should). I try to keep in mind we do have some ladies in the forum and there are jokes I would make with buddies that I would not feel comfortable making in front of ladies or my mother. I know I’ve failed on this at least a couple times so I’m no saint. Let’s clean it up people. As has been said, if you wouldn’t say it to HR or your mother/grandmother then let it go.

I think the safe for work site is a fairly simple guideline most people can / should consider before posting anything here. I guess there is slightly more leeway as there might be at an office party or weekend event. Having said that I am the only chap to raise my head above the parapet with an HR department trying to ban Merry Christmas as a greeting. They want the term merry winter break and to have a winter break party / holiday to avoid marginalising people who do not recognise Christmas. They said they valued my input which I think is one below I hear you in terms of considering my views ;0) …. I will get my coat….

If you knew my Mom, you’d know that’s not a good standard😀

If there were a joke thread, I'd probably post something like this today . . .

That fails the ‘would I post at work test’ on several levels so I suspect is not helping us get the original thread back up.
1) Possibly normalising domestic abuse/violence which could trigger someone
2) Photo of a real person with significant facial injury out of context which could cause distress
3) Could list a few more but will stop here…..

This does too:

1) It shows peanuts at being underhanded, and conniving, which could trigger peanut farmers
2) It depicts bears in a degrading light, as if these menial jobs are all they are qualified to do
3) It celebrates deceit and ripping off established businesses

I attended a mandatory sexual harassment training at work (precipitated by an incident) and some of the male employees were arguing with the trainer about what defines “harassment” and what if they just want to pay a compliment to a female coworker; or if women want to be equal to men they should be willing to listen to them tell the jokes they tell their male friends- these guys kept arguing these points.
I finally had enough, stood up and said “you are all grown ass adults, you know exactly what you are saying and how it will be interpreted. If you wouldn’t want someone to talk this way to your daughter, mother or wife- why the fυck would you say it to someone at work or a total stranger?”

This is a big part of why that thread is such a nuisance, a couple of years ago I had to argue with one guy who is no longer here because he posted a still frame from some Disney movie which has a naked woman in it called the avengers or something (cartoon). He keeps going on and on about how it’s Disney movie so it’s fine, it’s a Disney movie so it’s fine, kids watch that movie so it’s fine, Disney wouldn’t have made it if it wasn’t fine.

At the end of the day yea I know it was in a Disney cartoon for one single frame, it’s still not welcome here and that twits circular reasoning got him booted.

Please don't consider this post as an "argument" in the street sense. I state what i state, respectfully.

If management were to reopen a joke thread, I will abide by the house rules whatever they may be . . . and without complaint.

That said . . .

One may open up a news virtual page at work and see a photo of of a person with a black eye. Anyone who is triggered by a depiction of violence, cannot read the newspaper, look at the New York Times or the Washington post or the BBC online . . . and certainly one cannot watch either conventional network TV or anything beyond a children's show on Netflix or Amazon Prime, et al.

Looking at a photo that depicts violence does not normalize violence. Hopefully, it may have an opposite effect. What such a photo (without context) does do is to reflect real life, something we must all learn how to handle to live a healthy and productive life.

Apart from the above, the joke was very funny. 😉

~ Joe

Edit: I've edited this post a couple of times as I reflect further and struggle to get the nuance right, but perhaps I ought not to have said anything at all? I did not intend to offend anyone.

Just now, it occurred to me that, if the photo used in the joke above were of a a woman with a black eye or anyone else that society has historically considered more vulnerable than everyman, it would have offended nearly everyone and it would not be funny at all.
