Damn bad to hear I don’t think he is in the greatest health to begin with. I had a pair of front row tickets for Prine probably going back 15 years, I’ve always loved his stuff. The night of the show we had a riot at the juvenile detention facility I was working in and I got mandated to work. Wish I didn’t answer the phone that day. Good luck John

Tributes are gratifying ... just devastating.

His ability to craft a deeply meaningful song from the viewpoint of someone else amazes me. Angel from Montgomery, an older woman unhappy at home..Hello in There, senior citizens suffering from loneliness...Sam Stone, a drug addicted war veteran who commits suicide...Far from Me, a waitress. Every one of those makes me tear up every time I hear them, and those were all on his very first album. To launch his first album with so many incredible songs is stunning. He credits his time as a Postal Carrier saying it allowed him to daydream all day long, but his ability to empathize and put it in to such touching music is a talent we will surely miss.

“Woke up this morning
Put on my slippers
Walked in the kitchen and died
And oh what a feeling
When my soul
Went through the ceiling
And on up into heaven I did ride
When I got there they did say
John, it happened this a way
You slipped upon the floor
And hit your head
And all the angels say
Just before you passed away
These were the very last words
That you said:
Please don't bury me
Down in that cold cold ground
No, I'd druther have 'em cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both of my ears
If they don't mind the size.....”

RIP John Prine

I met John Prine once many years ago. I drove a relative who was an entertainment reporter at the time to one of his concerts. Acted like a regular guy. Always liked his songs.
RIP
