All things considered that was a pretty good price for a JLC triple date w/moon with original dial. Fair price for seller and buyer I would say.

It’s hard to put a value on a redialed watch because most collectors don’t want them. For that one in particular the redial is too bad. I couldn’t tolerate it at any price TBH.

The current flavor of the month is that a redial just isn't acceptable, followed by a severe aversion to any refinishing of the case. I've seen some terribly damaged dials and corroded cases that the owner things are just great because it is all original but hold no interest for me, it just depends on what grade of 'patina' you are willing to accept. You will fall into a trap if you buying on price only, you'll usually end up with an item that you will eventually be sorry that you bought.

IMO ... You had a shot at a collector grade watch. It went for less than many of us expected. IMO...It would have been worth stretching for but I don't know your financial situation. A terrible move would be to pay thousands for a redial just because its what you think you can afford.

fair enough, will keep my eye out on a non re-dialled omega!

Not sure at all but I think (please correct me if I'm wrong) it is the same watch on this gentlemen's wrist...

I believe you all know who he is and I always thought it was this JLC that he was wearing...

How do people feel about redials? Is it an unforgivable sin?
£2.5 fair for a redial omega cosmic moonphase?
If I may, I'd suggest that you be a bit more patient and not be too eager to pay your noob tax. It's not that your questions are wrong or inappropriate, but I get the feeling that you just can't wait to buy something, anything. With just a little more time reading, participating in the discussions, you'll be able to answer those questions for yourself. That's not to say that you might not still miss out on what is generally agreed to be a good deal like that JLC, but you'll have more confidence to jump when you should. You may also find yourself refining exactly what it is you're looking for, in terms of brand, model, age, and condition. You don't have to conform to everyone else's opinion on redials and originality, but you'll come to those opinions honestly and I think you'll appreciate your collection more.

Very sensible, not in a huge rush, but was looking for something to wear to a wedding in 6 months!

Beautifully put, and I wish someone had gently said something like that to me years ago. It's why I was asking @ranga about motivation a few posts back. Usually a newcomer (btw welcome!) needs to be restrained from punting too much on a piece of junk - trickily, that wasn't the case here, you were on a good horse. But, unless we are talking about absolutely exceptional pieces - way, way above my pay grade - the golden rule is don't worry, there will always be another one coming along! So, enjoy the search, and good luck.

Unfortunately, a piece like the OP watch doesn't come available to the general public in a no-reserve low-fee auction very often. One might wait years to have another opportunity like that. While an Omega Cosmic in similar condition might hypothetically sell for less in a no-reserve eBay auction, they are also extremely hard to find in excellent original condition - 95% of the dials are either ruined or re-painted.

Wow. What a beauty. The way it was listed it escaped my save searches, and I didn’t look at OF yesterday. Had I known I would have certainly felt comfortable pushing the bidding much higher. As @Dan S said this was a rare opportunity. 🙁

Just in case anyone is curious, the OP watch was listed recently by a France-based dealer for ~$8K. Really nice example.

Sold for a good price in that condition! The buyer should be happy - they got a lot of watch for their buck.
