JLC watch potential purchase - thoughts?

Hi all,

I am relatively new to the forums, first time posting, I’ve read some of the Omega new members guides but I am hoping you can help me with a JLC i am considering purchasing.

Do you think this is a redial?

Do you think the movement could be serviced by a local watchmaker or would it need to go out to JLC?

The red outside numerations, what are these? Pulsometer?

Thank-you very much!

Welcome to the forum. If you post photos instead of links, you're like to get much more traction. Posting photos is preferable for archival purposes, since links eventually disappear. I haven't researched the specific model, but at first glance the watch looks very nice. The outer numbers are the days of the month, it's a pointer-date.

I hope your budget is high, the price will probably go up quite a lot.

I don't see any glaring problems with the watch. The dial is extremely sharp, but i don't think its a redial. If there is a good watchmaker in your area that specialises in vintage watches - yes. The red numerals are the date...

The outer dial is the day of the month. This is a classic JLC triple and will go much higher in price. I’m not seeing any redial alarms.

Dial looks very sharp for its age, but JLC retailed a few of these as late as the 1980's so the dial may be newer than the original production date. Not an issue. I have a JLC triple date with the same dial design, but without the moon. All hands look original, but crown looks like a later replacement. Most of these movements were gilt, this example is rhodium plated, just an interesting diversion.

Current bid is Euro 1,810 with 2 days to go, it will go higher.

Sorry - do you mind clarifying? My understanding is this is 18k gold, what do you mean by gilt and rhodium plating?

He is talking about the finish on the movement.

Movement finishing, not the case material. The movement is rhodium plated (silvery finish) versus the normal gilt (yellow gold finish). But since this was a gift to a long time JLC employee upon retirement they may have added a better finish to the movement than normal.

Here is how they typically finished these movements.

NB the case back - well executed, and an in-house (sorry, maison) reward to a named JLC employee. Could be one of those occasions when an engraving really does add some interest and value. I'd be interested to hear from OP about his specific motivation on this one. Good taste, for sure. Good luck, anyway!

Good luck to the OP. The whole package is very desirable.

Btw (sorry - was (legally) out earlier), I think this is approximately the watch on the cover of the first edition of @Zaf Basha 's masterwork about JLC? Great resource for the OP to study (although maybe not buy yet if just a casual JLC fan).

Yeppers. This one has a different (more attractive in my opinion) dial variation.

Thanks for the feedback all! Yes I’ve been in the market for a jlc for a couple months and love the look of this! Certainly still a novice to vintage watches, but learning.

Any thoughts about somewhere near London, UK, that could service this? How much roughly would service cost?

thanks

Im afraid as predicted in the thread, the price rapidly outgrew my wallet!

Good news is the style reminded me of the omega cosmic triple calendar which i had previously overlooked and may be slightly more affordable. + i’ve seen some sold at 37mm which would be perfect. So will be hunting for one of those over the next few months!

I'm not sure what you were expecting, but $5,500USD was a good price IMO, I thought it would go over $6k. It's uncommon to find one in that condition.
