I only wish the bezel rotated like the original, that's about the only thing I didn't like.
Reviving this old thread for one correction: the original versions also did not have a rotating bezel.
Note also that in any event the bezels show hour demarcations, not elapsed minutes; so even had the bezels turned they wouldn’t have been of much use to a diver. The bezel then shows the hour of the day, absent from the dial itself.
The point of the Deep Sea alarm was to provide an underwater alarm for elapsed dive time,
instead of an elapsed minute dive bezel.
The Tributes are nearly 1-for-1 correct but for being 0.7mm larger, new innards, etc.
The European model might be more practical due to the lume on the hour markers and the fact that the logo is above the alarm disc. That could be why JLC made more of them - perhaps they imagined the US dial would be more of a niche product with less demand.
Ironic, as with the historical US vs Euro versions there were far more of the former made than the latter, with vintage Euro versions being much harder to find.
Finally, I thought I’d add for completeness to this thread that a third edition of this watch was made by JLC later in 2013, but only 3 examples were made for charity in connection with the Bono-led (RED) campaign. #1 of 3 was auctioned, the other two were kept by designers designers,
Jonathan Iveand
Marc Newson.
It appears to have been a well received charity auction, with #1 of 3 going for a hair above estimate:
