Be advised you must look at band length and case size carefully. Small or midsize cases are very popular in Japan, and they may look like a full size version but are in fact smaller.

Can't tell you how many times I backed away from a good deal that turned out to be 32 or 34 mm case instead of 38 or 40.

I've purchased this from Japanese seller. He ended up being an authorized Seiko dealer. The watch came with stampeded warranty card. Super quick delivery also! Nothing high end here, but still nice and easy transaction.
Can't say nothing about your particular seller, but I would definitely consider Japanese sellers.

I've seen another thread here where Closer was mentioned as being one of the more reputable/trustworthy Japanese ebayers. I think eLady was mentioned in that thread as well, if that helps searching.

That’s a really cool dial!

Putting in another good word for closer in particular, Japanese sellers in general. Something not mentioned yet: these sellers are usually MUCH more honest in the description of the watch, often showing photos that highlight minor imperfections, rather than hiding them.

Quoting @wsfarrell here only because this is very much relevant to my experience.

I had been eyeing an Omega from a Japanese seller on ebay quite heavily and did some research to see what I could find out about the risks/rewards associated with purchasing from Japanese sellers, and on the ebay nonetheless, which is how I found this thread. The condition and price were where I was looking to be and led me to this ebay purchase. Specifically, the seller was shu590218nona. The up close and high res photos of the watch showed what appeared to be significant scratches in the crystal. Enough so that I factored in replacing the crystal when comparing the price to other options, on and off ebay. Here are the basic facts of my transaction...

I made the purchase the morning of Friday, 3/4, which was late Friday night in Japan. The watch shipped out on Monday, 3/7. It cleared US customs, was delivered to the 'authenticator' in OH, got 'authenticated', and shipped out from said authenticator all on Wednesday, 3/9. It was delivered to me the morning of Friday, 3/11. The watch and contents were not only as described but without intently seeking them out I can't even see the imperfections on the crystal. The listing made the crystal look rough and it's anything but!

Anyway, just sharing my experience. Everything was smooth, simple, and the end product was better than expected.

The ebay seller shu590218nona's items appear to be stockless except for the lighter.
The description of shu590218nona's products is an English translation of the description of the online store that has the product in stock, and the product photo is an unauthorized use of the original photo.
For example, here is the link to the original online store of this watch sold by shu590218nona.
ebay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/134025031977
orignal link
https://takayama78online.jp/shop/g/g1021219470018/

However, the sold on eBay is not that much more than the original price, so it may be better to assume that the watch was ordered by an import agent.
Please be aware that some sellers who sell without inventory may set an exorbitant markup price.

Encouraged by posts about Closer, I bought a watch on eBay from him. It went wrong shortly after I received it but he was very cooperative and was happy to return and refund. He was also very prompt in responding to my emails. Sad about the watch but I’d buy from him again.

I’ve bought from eLady crew times from Japan, good seller and you will get better price at there website + 10% extra discount for the first time.

https://mall.elady.com/
+1 happy client of eLady, and I think that after the first purchase it is likely to find a discount codes for 5-7%.

This is broader than ebay but thought I will share - I like to use Buyee as a proxy service for Japanese Yahoo Auctions:
https://buyee.jp/item/search/category/23140
Never had any issue with misrepresentation of the item nor poor packaging. Just be warned that Japanese Yahoo is not the best place to hunt for vintage SM300. Probably nine out of ten 16*.024 watches are fakes with genuine Omega calibres.

That’s interesting. I did see another eBay seller had the same watch listed for around $750USD more, same photos and all. I assumed the game was that seller #1 lists an item and then seller #2 does as well but for a higher price hat would net them a profit if somebody happened to buy theirs first, in which case they would buy it to immediately resell. Naturally, the second, higher listing went away after I made my purchase. I was happy with the price, expediency, and overall experience.

That’s the game- seen it a few times among Japanese sellers. I always cross check other listings for the same watch when I see one that piques my interest,

This seller, like others, is playing that arbitrage game by listing items available on Japanese sites on eBay, with a markup. I chose the first watch I found from shu590218nona, this King Seiko 44-9990 for $591. I found the same watch on Rakuten: https://item.rakuten.co.jp/closer01/641453/ for 54,780 JPY ($467).

Which is fine, it's a service to people shopping eBay. But if you know, you can use a service like Buyee to facilitate buying from Japanese marketplaces with a smaller cost; here, you'd pay $485 after Buyee's fee and express shipping. (Or, at the very least, find more about the item: the original page has a lot more details about this watch than the eBay listing: running at -69 seconds/day? Nice.)

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread however, the topic is still the same.

has anyone used the eBay seller Japan's Watch shop? they have a watch listed that I have been hunting as it's the month and year of my Son's birth. I'm not sure if they are the actual seller or they are the procurer as the same watch is listed with Minico Shop and EIC_RM

I spoke to them and they confirmed that the paperwork states December 2018 despite not being in their listing.

You should get photos of everything they are claiming that they are selling. If they can't send you a photo of the paperwork, I wouldn't buy it. Otherwise, if you're happy with the watch and the price, there's no danger in buying it regardless of whether they have the watch in hand. You are protected by eBay.

That’s a good shout, the other 2 actually have pictures of the box and papers

I have had great luck with GMT-J on eBay. They use the eBay authentication service, have great communication, and their prices are excellent.

The majority of watches you see on eBay from Japanese sellers are resellers. They run the gamut from comically overpriced to reasonable, use the original seller's photos, and may or may not use their descriptions. As a long time resident that has helped a number of friends get watches from here, I've been thinking about formally setting up a buying service, but would have to pin down the details. Feel free to DM me if there's something you're looking at and you want to see if it's a reseller or what the situation is with a particular watch.

I think they are agents rather than resellers, correct? They don’t actually have the watch and they facilitate the transaction once they get a sale. This is why you may see the same watch in multiple listings. Also, there is a disclaimer that it “needs to be acquired.”
