I want an IWC in my collection of mostly omegas, but given the choice I would personally go with that omega in this case. It looks great.

I'm a Girl[emoji68] Herr Einstein. In Malaysia only a 5% discount off the retail price is offered for IWC models.
There is absolutely ZERO DISCOUNT on any Omega LE series
Herr Einstein. The IWC Pilot Chrono / Non Chrono series are the most sought after, commands higher 2nd hand prices & units fly off the shelf easily. Portuguese / da Vinci models not so.
The 0nly Omega collection series that are Over-rated ,holds its value elegantly and actually appears to gain value albeit rather slowly over time are the LE Speedmasters. Every Single One of 'Em! Period ! The only fascinating exception so far is the SM300 MC Spectre watch. In Malaysia , you need to understand that every bloody watch collector shamelessly wants to be James Bond 007 ! And the price of a pre owned Spectre with that lollipop second hand ( just like the Chrono hand of the CK2998 LE ) is never sub USD 7800 if you manage to find 0ne. Lucky owners will usually smile, give you the middle finger and politely ask you to F☆☆☆ O## !

Here is an example of a pre owned Blue Panda for Sale in Malaysia. Call him Greedy Ugly or Mad Genius but this Seller is offering his "worn , used " blue panda in the local ebay market at an astonishing premium price US 7865 Herr Einstein. In Malaysia , a brand new unworn IWC Portuguese Chrono 3714-46 retails for ~ USD 5485. I just called up a dealer friend of mine who told me the market price of a 1 year old pre owned exact IWC Portuguese model in excellant condition is ~ USD 3708 . So the resale value of this IWC has depreciated by 32%[emoji136]
The price could be lower. I was offered MYR20000 for it.

Yup [emoji3] You are right @ck77 and you were offered the best possible deal , did you buy it ? That's undercutting the competition because it's RM 2000 or USD 450 below the recommended retail price at the OB.
There are another 2 Malaysian sellers asking for RM 23 K & RM 24 K respectively for a brand new unit

I was trying to figure out why he was selling a pre owned CK2998 LE at such a premium. Possible reasons:

● The Seller purchased the LE in expensive Paris not Malaysia which has one of the lowest retail prices in the World
● Perhaps the watch had a very special serial number like 861/2998 or 1861/2998
● The CK2998 LE in his possession is one of the rarest , the blue lume on the markers , minute , hour & lollipop hands or a combination of blue and green lume to justify his insane asking price. The majority have the green lume.

P/S [emoji136] Has any0ne here ever seen a Replica or fake CK2998 blue panda ? It's a pretty good counterfeit model & would fool most newbies !

Wow I didn't know about that price gouging in Malaysia! I guess the supply for such preowned items over there is pretty low which is why they have the gall to sell at premiums. There seems to be a bigger market over in your neighboring country Singapore.

And of course you're a girl... cute avatar pic!

Sure It Is Sir ! It is associated with Superstitious beliefs in the Chinese customs and traditions.....
But wait a minute ! Do you think the numbers only applies to Chinese people ?
Pray , Tell Me Why all Major Airlines in the World with direct connecting routes to China and Hong Kong have flight destination numbers on the ticket beginning with 8 ?
Dutch KLM, United Airlines ,Etihad, Singapore, Malaysia ,Cathay Pacific etc

The number 8 is associated with prosperity . The number 6 in Mandarin sounds like luck is flowing....
The double digits of 1 means pair of either good or bad so since 8 & 6 are part of the Calibre number that means the person will have double luck and wealth flowing down the road...
Something like that anyway...

[emoji638] [emoji645] [emoji645] [emoji644] = 9 means the 9 dragons , 9 laws , 9 Commandments ( Ok ! Lets leave Moses out of this ! ) associated with Chinese Royalty & the Emperor.
To a person with very supersitious beliefs , the number edition [emoji644] [emoji642] [emoji637] or [emoji637] [emoji644] [emoji642] [emoji637] / [emoji638] [emoji645] [emoji645] [emoji644] have very powerful meanings and deep symbolic expressions !

Heck ! If I wanted to sell a CK[emoji638] [emoji645] [emoji645] [emoji644] & fortunate enough to get the edition number [emoji644] [emoji642] [emoji637] or [emoji637] [emoji644] [emoji642] [emoji637] , I would most definately add an extra 500 Bucks to the final price !! Take It or Leave It [emoji68]

Longtime lurker here. When faced with a decision between the IWC 3714-45 (I think) -- the one with gold numbers, and a moonwatch, I chose the IWC. So I did this comparison many times. A few comments:

The IWC does wear larger, from some angles. Most notably, looking straight at it (as in telling the time). It comes off as all dial since the bezel matches the dial and is under the crystal. This is why it looks big in most wrist shots. But from farther away, as in your view in a full-length mirror, it looks similar to any other 41mm watch.

Interesting perspective! I guess the dark bezel on the Speedmaster does make it look smaller up close...

I would, erm..., I went for this. Pictures appeal to the eye...

Looks good in stainless steel too! Did you get it from the Omega boutique directly and how much was it?

So is that why the earlier series top of the line Rolex Day Date models all start with 18? 1803, 18038, 18138, 18238, 118238...

That leather texture provides a very nice contrast to the clean dial! I haven't seen too many on the forums though, and I have my doubts about eBay... where else would you suggest? And also thanks for sharing photos!

I have another leather strap coming today. Will post later.

Try a search on watch recon. A dealer is selling one for $5375. Another dealer is asking $5750.

I own an IWC 3714 47 Portuguese Chronograph (black dial) and standard 3570.50 Moonwatch and 2004 3570.40 Japan Racing Speedmaster. Each is great in its own way and I'd hesitate to single one out as 'best'. Certainly the IWC in black is very dressy and impressive though not in a vulgar way - in fact it's a very elegant watch. The CK2998 is one of the worst Speedmasters in my view. Always to me, the further the designers stray from the original black dial/tool watch concept the less attractive is the resultant Speedy. As I have pointed out here before, the CK2998 dial is a clumsy layout, with too much 'dead' space in the upper half. A lot of the approbation this watch has enjoyed stems from it being an LE and people thinking it must therefore be good aesthetically.

That's kind of bullshit no? I men I get that you don't like it but I would not just jump into dismissing other people's tastes

That's if you characterize the Speedy as a "tool watch"... I think over the years watches have changed from being tools to being luxury items. Just like how Ferrari was designed to be a race car and yet there are so many cruising slowly along Beverly Hills...

Sorry divers and chronos are tool watches no matter how much or how little paid. A race car is still a race car even at 10 kmh 😉

flam·boy·ant1

adjective: flamboyant
  1. Architecture
of or denoting a style of French Gothic architecture marked by wavy flamelike tracery and ornate decoration.
but don't let my personal likes/dislikes influence your own, everyone has different tastes... 😀

I think this definition is more suitable? But I get your point, and of course to each his own!
