A time for the unsung hero of the WIS to shine. The beater, the workhorse that we mount into action for those times that we couldn't possibly subject our prized objects of desire to. We all have them and I wouldn't mind guessing that 80-90% are Seiko.

During the wet season here I wear two watches a day if I am going to work. As I ride a scooter or motorbike to work everyday and the probability of a monsoonal downpour I am not about to wear any of my vintage or expensive watches.

The catalyst for this post. I received my new posh beater today and thought it would be interesting to see others.

The new posh beater as it arrived..

I couldn't live with the strap though and fitted one that I had lying around and will order a more suitable one..

Unbelievable wrist presence for under $200

My other beaters. The Sumo took a real beating (as you can see) when a guy kicked me off my bike one night. It isn't only the beater the carries the scars from this adventure, I received five stitches above my eye. Could have been worse, I could have been wearing my 2998馃槈

Modified..

Post yours, give your beater a chance to bask in the spotlight馃榾

These were my beaters for about 15 years:

I no longer subject them to the horrors I once did and give that to this guy

This has always been the motto I have lived by with everything I own:

Ahaha who the heck are you kidding! That "beater" is in mint condition and you are the same as me and many others and couldn't beat any watch up no matter how much the thing is worth! It's just not in our DNA 馃榿

This is true- even in hard wearing conditions I have always been attentive to not slamming my arm about (and always wore long sleeves during back country work to keep the bugs and sun off the skin) - not simply for the watch but for my own personal safety. I guess it鈥檚 like a cat with whiskers, we just become attentive to the extra 8-15mm of height off our wrists.

Although I鈥檓 thinking of getting the ga 2100 aka the casi oak.

Or the srpc44.

I want the white hour marker one for the Casio and I鈥檓 not going to pay 200 plus or double msrp for what amounts to a basic g shock.

the gold turtle will happen when I find a good deal on one then I鈥檒l upgrade the bezel to something with better finishing. I guess it will not be a beater then.

Beaters in order "don't want to hurt it" to "don't care if I smash it against a wall".

My IWC 3706 Fliegerchronograph, my daily beater for the last 15-years. Only recently have added the SRP777 Turtle for water use and more extreme activity such as when using a hammer or power tools. Otherwise, the IWC handled all that and more for a decade and a half with only the rotor screw working loose once that just needed retightened.
(Don't judge me for using my dog as the backdrop.)
