I verry much dislike this term "beater". Absolutely none of us on this forum are whacking these things against brick walls for fun, and many of these watches are actually quite nice. I know you're not going to stop using that term.

Actually mine gets whacked against everything all day fishing And 4x4ing in remote Northern Australia.
Plenty of people don’t live in the city and work in a office all day.

Not far from my front door

90% of roads around my way

The local swimming hole

Yes beaters

And this gets worn climbing over these all day.

I don't live a particularly rough life and am certainly not beating my watches up, nice or vintage or not. But despite having developed good protective habits around my left wrist, in some situations a knock or sideswipe, or soaking does occur. And so it's that contingency that makes me wear a beater whenever I'm doing these things. Sure, if it's just gonna be a hot day outside I may just choose a modern watch on a bracelet or nato but if I'm going to be doing chores around, or especially flying with all the knocking around reaching about for seat belts, and snagging of crowns and pushers dealing with my bags.

For a guy with so many “beaters”, they look pretty good!

This Seiko was beaten up when I bought it but came on this blue Ichizawa canvas strap that can only be purchased from a single shop in Kyoto, so it was the strap that drew me in and I won it at a watchmaker's auction. The canvas is very strong but soft and comfortable, and the buckle a cinch to fasten, and secure, ... and the Seiko is a fully qualified beater.

Lately, it's been this one, since I can trust it in the water. Curious to see how all these polished surfaces look in a year.

(Don't judge me for using my dog as the backdrop.)

Woof.

Ditto. If I had a watch, any watch, that got as beat up as some of the examples here, I wouldn't be able to wear it. It would either get repaired or sold.

I can't do "smart" watches because I hate technology (I work in I/T) and I don't wear quartz any more because of the electricity. I recently got this thing below, which is a Rolex homage, and although I'm still struggling with getting it calibrated, I like it pretty well. It will likely be my beater. Although I confess, I usually just wear whatever is in rotation, and then after I come in from doing chores for 3 hours and take it off to shower, I think, dang, I shouldn't have worn the Omega this morning...

Agreed. I polish my work boots, I have my causal shits laundered and pressed, and after the 18 years of wearing my Speedy for regular field work- I treated it to a new crystal and service bezel- looks like new watch (but almost 50 years old)- just can’t do the shabby.

I initially bought the Casio F-91W "terrorist watch" to have a simple digital watch, but it kept bad time for being a digital watch so I upgraded to the Casio A158W, and I'm really happy with it. It cost me USD 15 on ebay and I find myself wearing it a lot, especially now as my Speedmaster is in for a service.

Love it...someone with a Seiko as well loved and worn as my own. 😉
