Is this the wrong date wheel?

Looks silver-y. Not sure if it shows up in the picture. Is this aging of the wheel? Is this the right color or should it be the same color as the dial? (White) The reference is I believe 14393. I've had it for about 1 yr but I haven't had it opened yet.

Thanks.

My understanding is that there are 58 shades of white. Like most companies, Omega likely used fewer colours of white on date wheels than they did colours of white on dials. Maybe three shades of white for date wheels, and a dozen shades of white for dials. I have seen white date wheels on watches with black, green, gold colour, grey, dials, etc. etc. And of course white date rings on white, silver, grey dials, etc. etc. etc. Chances are you will never find a date ring that will match exactly. Chances are dials and date rings (these are not made by Omega) were made by two different companies, and months, or years apart. Don’t obsess over it!

But it's actually silver. Not even any shade close to white.

Well then. Good luck for a better explanation, and a date ring that matches EXACTLY! 😁 I have numerous calendar watches from a number of watch companies with dials of a variety of colours. They all have white or silver date rings. A problem? 🥱 Here’s an example. An Omega with a white dial, and silver date ring. I’m not saying you shouldn’t fret over your date ring not matching to suit you, but what do you plan to do about it?

Or try this. BLACK dials with silver chapter rings! Silver dials with white chapter rings. Or any one of a number of others with date rings that don’t match! 😀

Sell the watch and find one with a matching date ring.

Is the calendar ring textured/sparkly ? It kind of looks that way from that photo... One thing is for sure, you can't just use any calendar ring on a movement because only few will match (either a genuine one or, by chance, one with similar/identical dimensions made for other movements) so it's not that easy to replace it with a fake one if that's your concern.

The crown looks like a replacement, doesn't it ?

Doesn't have to match exactly.

I believe the crown is a replacement (unsure if it's genuine or not). I'm asking about the date wheel because I'd like everything to be period and reference correct. Finding a proper crown is also on my list in order to bring it back to life, so to speak. The wheel is a slightly textured silver. I have no idea if it's been replaced or if it's even an Omega date wheel. If this is they way it's supposed to be, then I'm fine with the current date wheel. What I don't want is a miss match of non Omega, non correct parts.

“Doesn’t have to match exactly.” Then what is the issue? My guess is that the date ring on your watch is exactly like 90%of the date rings Omega used on that calibre of movement, when your watch was produced. A “genuine” Omega date ring. Omega didn’t MAKE those date rings. They were outsourced!

I wouldn't expect a silver date ring either. These 550 series date rings came in different colours so, it may have been replaced due to damage and the closest easily available ring was silver. Of course, it may have had a silver ring from day 1... Here's a similar watch I have with a date ring that matches the dial better:

Take it to a watchmaker to open it and see if it needs a service. When they get into it, if it needs to come apart for a service, ask them for an Omega ring in a better colour. If you get stuck, I may have one in my spares boxes.

Cheers, Chris

Ya I think I might do that. Thanks. Just didnt want to change something that may be original but look like most of these models appear to have whiter date wheels that seem to match the dial better. Of course I'll want an Omega date wheel.

I just looked at these date windows and all of them look silver like yours.
Maybe you should change your dial.

Last year I bought this watch

and then tried to change the date wheel, the one with white color is flat style, won't fit into to that movement dial.
So, both of them won't work

Finally I found this silvery one in domed style and that is the only one that is available online and correct for that movement/dial style.

Hope you can find a domed like that in the color you like.

Hoi.

Out of interest, I just looked in my spares box and these are the three Omega 560 date rings that I have - all are used, obviously. The outer two are clearly silver but the middle one is off white (?) so, you might be able to find one. They are all domed profile as they came from watches with curved dials.

Good luck, Chris
