Is this SM60 166.062 genuine and any thoughts on that?

Hi, i am currently thinking about getting my first vintage omega watch and thought about this one here on chrono24.
I heared that there are a lot of fakes around and wanted to get some Opinions on this one before starting a new Hobby the wrong way!

I already figured out that the bracelet is different to what i normally see on Seamaster 60 but is this one maybe also correct? The other thing is the seconds hand, which i think is wrong, is it still possible to get the right one from Omega?

Thanks a lot in advance and kind regards

Have you noticed the cracked bezel at 45? Being made from bakelite I am not sure how long it will hold together in this state. Bezels are discontinued so you would be looking at finding a new old stock or used.

The bracelet looks incorrect but the end links (540) are correct for the 1098 bracelet. Bracelet/end links that fit are 1098/540, 1067/532, 1069/524, 1125/560 and 1172/538. I have been looking for a while and it’s the end links I am struggling with.

This seconds hand (same watch) has been discussed on here before, - scroll to end of this thread https://omegaforums.net/threads/questions-regarding-the-seamaster-60-reference-166-062.32186/page-2
I think @OMEGuy has it correct saying it’s from a ref. 166.088. Original second hands are still available I believe.

The rest of the watch looks fine and it has a very nice dial. If it’s on Chrono24 it won’t be cheap!

Thanks for your answer and the hint on the cracked bezel, that could mean a hard time when loosing it!
As i see in the thread you linked it was on ebay but can not open it as ebay can not find the auction anymore.
Would be interesting for how much the watch went over there😉

The watch is listed for 2.5k on chrono24, what do you think is a reasonable price with the wrong bracelet and cracked bezel?

Thanks in advance!

Not a fake

Second hand probably a service replacement, dial cracking not a big issue and will hold up find but plenty of people who can repair the crack in the dial with resin filling.

Bracelet probably not original to the watch

Plus point:

1: Good clean movement but check the number and makes sure it is within expectations for that reference
2: Clean dial, these dials suffered badly from spotting and ageing
3: Nice crisp case

They are lovely watches, I've owned many of them. Price wise, I sold a NOS one last July for £2950, I would say aim to get it a little cheaper.

Hope this helps

Tom

Just received the watch and directly added a leather strap! Now I think it looks gorgeous😉

only thing is that the bezel is turning hardly... feels like there is some dirt underneath it.

How hard is it to remove the bezel and how is it done?

thanks and kind regards

Ditto on the comment regarding the bezel insert. Don’t try to remove or fix it or you will be in for a long hunt trying to find another.

the seconds hand looks like it was replaced with one from a Geneva Dynamic but I can’t remember the ref. They came in burgundy, blue and silver if I recall
