Had a few questions on this watch. The T Swiss Made T started in 1960’s and this watch should be from the early 1950’s I believe. It also doesn’t look like the crosshairs is even on the omega symbol but I see some others that are similar. It also seems like the crown is a bit oversized. I’m curious to know thoughts and if I overpaid. I really love this ref.
As you note dials from this period would not have had tritium used on them so they wouldn't be signed T Swiss Made T, so that's a very good tell that what you have bought is a redial. As to whether you overpaid, without knowing what you paid it's very hard to give a meaningful response. If you bought it recently and it was described as having an original black gloss dial ( where 99% of the time a premium will be priced in ) then you should try to return it.
Shoot. Yea I paid 1800 for it. It’s arriving tomorrow and was shipped from overseas. I got it through chrono24 so I may have some recourse. I’ll have to look. It was sold as all original
Well that is very expensive indeed, so I'd say you have overpaid quite a lot there, probably by a factor of 3x. A watch like this remains an attractive time piece, but has no collector value due to the redial. Even had the dial been original the case has been heavily polished and I'd have put a value somewhere around the €700-850 mark max
Hey, I am no expert but I believe 1800 is a big number for that kind of vintage Seamaster, and I realized the lugs look not sharp at all, but very soft and polished. It is not the worst redial one has seen in this forum and 1800 is crazy anyway... Also, redials have no value to most collectors and can be difficult to sell, should you keep the watch. Edit: cristos71 beat me to the price and lugs
I would return it. $1800 is far too much. In that condition I would not see it go for more than $300.
For that kind of money you can get a real collection piece. A good example will cost you somewhere around the 1000$ mark, an outstanding example maybe 1500$ plus. The conclusion is that if you can return this watch you can get yourself a really nice all original example and even with some cash to spare!
Yep, you should definitely return it. For $1800, you can find a 18k gold all original vintage Omega watch in very good condition.
Oh wowzers yes that is a lot for a Seamaster, I would leave them poor feedback to for trying to pull the wool over your eyes!!
The following is commonly said but seldom listened to. At a rough educated guess, 95%+ of the black dial Omega dress watches (and semi dress watch like the fat lugs or SMDVs) offered for sale have been redialled. Buying one without doing your homework is like asking 'You've got to ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky? Well do ya, punk? This watch has at least 3 easy tells that it isn't remotely original. The noob tax is high here.
Thanks everyone ! I spoke to the seller and they said they weren’t aware of it being a redial but were happy to take it back. So it looks like it might have a happy ending. Appreciate all the knowledge here
This watch will 100% sell for much more then $ 300. People are standing in line for these glossy redials. I saw it happen a lot. And to be honest, I can understand what people see in these. It looks attractive. Although I would never buy one. Good from the OP to come here. Most find out years later (or never).
