Hello,
I am considering purchasing this watch, a 2853 constellation cal 501. Can anyone tell me if the dial is rewritten? Obviously the glass is no original and I'm not very sure about the hands.
Thank you

Its always best to first introduce yourself to the forum. Regarding the watch, what has your own research concluded? What observations make you think its original vs refinished? What about this example draws you to it specifically anyways? You also mentioned you were unsure about the hands. The advice of the majority of the members on the forum would be to do a lot more research studying what is correct before pulling the trigger and purchasing a watch.

The minute markers on these are a good indicator if redialed or not.

Look at a few and compare the minute markers to the above ones.

Thank you very much, you're right. To me it seems a bit odd to me the writing on the dial is very black. I liked this example as it was very close to my budget, but I guess I should wait for another one. The seller was also swearing the dial is original ......

Sellers often do that.

Also, sometimes you have to read between the lines, the dial could be original, but repainted..

It looks in very good condition for the age and the depth of the black is slightly alarming.

Could be just a well looked after dial but I am sure the much more knowledgable members of the forum will be able to help further.

Thank you very much. That's what alarms me as well. I have not received any concrete Yes/ No but reading between the lines seems it is a redial.

Yeah, then the watch is not really original. In this particular case is it also your opinion it is a repaint? So far I have not seen any of that color or the writing so black. I am assuming the dial should be gold .... Sorry but this is this the first constellation for me and I would like to spend 3000+ Euros on something original.

So the seller came back with more pictures, he was very distrustfully when I said it looks like the dial is redone and continues to say it's an original .... does anyone please have an direct opinion?

Redial. Many problems including wrong texture and soft piepan edges.

This... I recall reading on the forum somewhere that the edges of a pie-pan give away a redial. Basically they get rounded rather than stay sharp.

Here is one with an original piepan dial in an 18k YG case for reference:
