Is my watch too big?

Hi, I’m new to the forum and am loving it so far.

I’m looking at a Seamaster 300, the latest model. I’m a bit concerned it may be too big. It seems comfortable on.
I would love to hear your opinions

What answer do you want to hear ?
Which reply makes you happier ?

a) it’s a great watch and looks absolutely fine on you 👍
b) that watch on that wrist ? LOL this has to be a wind-up 👎

IMHO It is fine as long as the lugs aren't longer than your wrist seen from above. Those bent lugs make it look shorter

Looks great if you ask me, these wrist shots always make the watch appear larger than in reality.

The harder decision is whether to go for the back or blue...

Looks on the limit but fine IMO. No lug overhang which is the main thing. If I had your wrist I think I'd be happy enough with that fit to buy the watch.

My rule is if I'm wearing the watch on a strap I want to see some visible strap curve top and bottom of the watch when on my wrist, if the strap pulls vertically down from the lugs then it's almost certainly too large.

I tried on a few of these back in the Summer, I’m a 6.75 in wristed Speedmaster Pro wearer, so thought I’d be fine. The money was burning a hole in my pocket and I was ready to go.

My experience was that whilst they’re super comfortable, they just looked too big on my wrist. If that huge HEV didn’t protrude as much I think I would have probably been fine. But visually there was too much “bulk” on my wrist. I was disappointed, as I think they’re great, but not quite right enough for me to pull the trigger.

How does it look on your wrist? Similar to how it looked on mine, maybe you could get away with it though. But my tuppence worth is - If you weren’t quite sure if it was the right size when you tried it on, then you were probably right. I think that this watch probably isn’t quite the right one for you.

I think you guys are right. If I’ve got to ask, then it’s probably too big.
I love the watch, any suggestions for anything similar but a bit smaller?

How about the pre-2018 version of the SMPc? It’s a bit narrower at 41mm, a bit thinner at around 13 mm, and still available. I bought it instead of the new version because I thought it had better styling and it was less expensive. No regrets, it’s a great watch.

Isn't there a smaller version of the SMP? I really don't follow the latest offerings carefully, but if they are no longer making the smaller model, you could easily pick up a preowned watch.

I'd second going for an older SMP. They always look classy.

Omega also makes a smaller, 39.5mm Planet Ocean ~

OP what size is your wrist? - btw, I don't think it looks overly large.

I have a 6.75 flat(ish) wrist and wear a Speedmaster which is probably on the cusp of being a bit large, there is some strap visible when on the bracelet, but not a lot, if iI'd had a 6.5 wrist it'd probably have been too large.

I do find when I swap straps about that it does wear differently, i.e on a nato it looks tiny, i tlooks about right on a perlon or leather and looks at it's largest on the bracelet - so another strap might be an option if you're dead set on that particular watch.

Viewed from the top, and measured from the end of the lugs, I've about 3/4 inch, all told to the edges of my wrist, the end links probably swallow about half of that where they meet the bracelet - if that makes sense??

I'd rather a watch appear too large than too small, most 40mm offerings look pretty dinky on me for some reason.

This is a very good description of my view on this matter also. It is a matter of taste.

Looks perfectly sized and very good. 👍

I wanted to get one of these last year, but they were completely sold out in the UK- couldn’t get one anywhere.
Shame as it’s a better watch than the current model in my opinion- as you say, it’s less bulkier than the current model.
Love that deep black ‘non wave’ dial too.
