Is Modern CK2998 a good investment?

Patience is your friend- keep an eye on watchrecon or on the classified’s here and look for private sellers with good rep and do your homework on the seller. Dealers will always charge a premium (that’s their business) and eBay is only good as a barometer if you look at what they have sold for, not what the asking (daydreaming) prices are listed for with BIN.
Thanks Man! International transaction of valuable items is not easy for me considerring the risk/custom/tariff since I'm located in China. But thanks for your advice, I'll take a look at private sellers.

Watches aren’t good investment, except maybe for some Rolex models.

Even Rolex can be risky- don’t forget when the bubble burst on the bubble-backs (sorry for the word play- I couldn’t help myself).

Thanks Folks for comments which is really helpful to a freshman. I do like the watch but I'm wonderring if the attraction justify the premium. Multiple guys mentioned a fare price is $5K~6K, while I took a quick search on ebay looks sellers are listing at ~8K. Is there better source of inquiry?
Are you looking at completed auctions, or BIN prices? Biiiiig difference...

Search the classified here on OF, and check non-dealer ads on watchrecon.com. I do not think you will see anyone with prices near $8k USD. Heck, I would happily sell you one that is BNIB for $7.5k; I'm saving it for my son but I would be willing to sell for that amount and put the money in his college fund. But you would be throwing money out the window by doing so!

Only buy as an investment if you can afford to lose money. Who knows where it’ll be in 5, 10 or even 15 years time. At a guess; you’ll not lose money in the long term but you may not make a substantial amount. Only buy it if you like the watch.

It’s a good investment if you like it and keep it. If you mean as to resell to make a profit then no. Servicing costs, selling fees, and loss insurance can cancel out or even negate any profits.

As a financial advisor for over 30 years - my tacit recommendation, assuming that you have ample liquidity elsewhere and can handle the risks - is to buy quality stocks for the long run. I buy my watches strictly as an enthusiast would ; enjoying them for sundry reasons. The SPX is up 30% ytd!!! That’s an investment ..

Agree.... buy it if you like it...shouldn't buy it for "investment" reasons.... at least from a purist perspective
You have misunderstood my comment.
The investment is the fact that the OF member finds the watch "adorable".

Agreed. The OP likes the watch, then it’s now about finding the best price. Now the issue of his location and even if he does find one at around $6k the costs of shipping, insuring, import tax...it may be worth paying the premium to source one closer to him....and with less headache. Only the OP can do the math and see what’s worth it.

Completely agree, especially with a model like this that doesn't have the classic look.

I love mine. Bought new at Botique when they were released 3 years ago. Never thought of it as an investment, but something I can pass down to my boys 30+ years from now.

It depends on how much enjoyment you want to extract out of it.

"Investing" in modern watches is not a good idea.

Generally all modern Omegas depreciate. While there are rare exceptions, that is my expectation. Use that to your advantage and buy preowned.

That is exactly the investment a watch should be for, it's the reason I am buying a watch.

Each will have a story, bought new or vintage that I can pass on to my son... at that point if he decides to sell or keep for sentimental reasons it's his call and to be fair, I won't be around to worry about his decision.

If I sold all my watches for their market value I’d receive approx £15,000 more than I paid. They are all Omegas too....

They may not do quite as well as my other (more traditional) investments but for me there is the associated investment in my happiness, which I don’t get from my stocks and shares.

You also can’t wear your stock certificates on your wrist. 😀
