Is a New Speedmaster 57 on the way???

I notice the Speedmaster 57 models are becoming less obtainable at ADs in the UK, though it appears you can still easily buy direct on the Omega website. I have seen several Jewellers move them on in sales recently, Ernest Jones selling SS models at £5000 just this month. Fantastic value.

I read the latest 57s were released in 2015 and the general 2 counter co-axial 9300 design was introduced 2013. Is a new 57 on the way?

I’d love a new 57 to have the 105.003 case and stepped dial with the traditional 3 counter design and vintage applied logo like the Heritage Speedmaster 321, but with a 3861 movement and SS case back with the old school hippocampus. A ceramic bezel and the new coated anti reflective sapphire that has the laser etched Omega logo would be awesome. That new bracelet on the Chronoscope with the comfort release adjustment system would be great too. I’ll stop now before I start to drool!

I know I know, basically asking for the Heritage 321 with a 3861 movement and the updated clasp. I can’t think why Omega would use anything but the updated clasp now as it’s an improvement. It seems crazy to invest in the machining of the 105.003, ceramic bezel and other technology now used on the sapphire Crystal and not choose to make the most of that investment, hence my hope that we will see it used on the next 57. In my opinion it would be as popular as the Speedmaster professional, it would be the best vintage inspired reiteration to date outside the 321 price point.

I think the new two-counter manual-wind chronoscope movement would be a better fit if Omega continues the Speedmaster 57 line — they would be thinner and a little smaller in size, and would maintain a separate Speedmaster line. But time will tell.

Having a manual wind watch in a sports themed watch is a heavier lift than if it was automatic. Most average people don't want to wind a watch every day, we already have the classic Speedmaster, I don't think going to a manual wind Speedmaster 57 line makes much sense.

Most average people don't want to wind a watch every day.
Which is why they wear battery watches, if they wear a watch at all.

Someone enthusiastic enough to buy a Speedmaster of whatever type will wind it every day if it needs to be wound every day.

Something tells me that you will happily wind a watch every day if it were your favorite.

Fifty-sevens were not the watches in big demand anyway, so I think after months or years that ADs kept them on display without moving could result in no further orders from Omega. I myself owned one '57 that I loved, but had to sell for various reasons and interest was very low, even with good deal proposed. You really need someone who loves this one (and it is a lovely watch).

Now withe the new two-counter chronoscope I don't think introducing some new iteration of '57 would make any sense.

Now the Chronoscope 2 counter is available, perhaps Omega will take the 57 back to its pre project Mercury homage, yes they gave it a try with the FOIS and they brought it home with the 321 Ed White, but it’s just not affordable or obtainable. So I see a huge opportunity to produce a modern vintage 57 Speedmaster. People love the applied vintage Omega logo, the straight lug case without crown guards and the modern anti reflective sapphire with the etched logo at centre. Why they would not put a 3861 in with a solid vintage inspired case back I don’t know, I think it makes a winning combo. I’d buy it, in fact I am holding off purchasing a speedy in hope that Omega produce a heritage 57 like this.
