Omega Ploprof steel on the way

I went down the Ploprof rabbit hole and looked up vintage models, the steel model, and the more recent titanium releases. I ended up finding a very nice complete steel set which is on the way to me.

I was so torn between the steel and titanium models (and between the sandblasted grey and black).
Please tell me I made the right choice.

I had my heart set on a titanium with orange bezel for years...but other purchases got in the way. As it stands today, I am waiting to see the 75th Anniversary Ploprof with its smaller case to see if it is something that I will like. What I dislike is it only comes on rubber...but, I guess we will see.

As for you, a complete set in Steel sounds like you made a choice. Have you tried on all different models? I liked the titanium b/c the watch was so light...it felt right on my wrist.

I have not tried it on. I’m left-handed and wear the watch on my right wrist. Am interested to see the heft of the steel as I know it’ll be substantial.

I’ve owned large ceramic and titanium Seamasters. Very light. Interested to see what this one is like.

Any Ploprof is the right choice, lol.

I have the vintage Ploprof and the modern steel Ploprof. I enjoy them both. The vintage is a bit more comfortable, but I have also gone 30 days wearing the modern steel. It wears much better than I thought it would given its size. I really enjoy the weight of the steel.

Serviced vintage here. Love it. I just took delivery of the original style mesh. It is ever so slightly tight at its most loose setting. I have the extension inbound. Anyone else forced to use the extension? What are your opinions if you do?

have a 1380 with the extension. First time I saw it I thought it would be uncomfortable. I was wrong, it's a dream. I can't even tell it's there until I see it.

It arrived today. So much fun. Got the bracelet sized--OEM mesh and clasp are so comfortable. It wears so much smaller than you would expect.

Still figuring how to wear this one. You can tell where the crown guard is hitting my hand.

mbp great watch! Congratulations. I figured this would happen. Because of the crown guard and the flat service on the right side (and the bottom of the right side a little curved) this watch wears best on the left wrist. On the right it wears not so well. Maybe you can "mod" this watch by placing the dial 180 degress off, and switching the bracelet upside down. I have seen a 1970s PP where this is done. Yet the owner claims this was delivered that way. The bezel lock button on the bottom left in that case, tells the story. Date window will be fine.

The black rubber strap on this watch also looks good and wears a little lighter than this combo at 250+ grams. Enjoy.

PS I am looking forward to the new PP gen3, which wears a little smaller and more true to the original size.

Yea its definitely not meant for left handed wear which may seem counter intuitive but it’s true

I've played with the microadjustment (incredible little detail) and have had the watch sized so it's just a little snug, allowing me to wear it a bit higher on the wrist. Today will be my first full day wearing it. I think the crown guard and the bezel with the bezel lock 180 would still lead to a bit of pressure against the top of my wrist just because of the size, weight. I will try it out but still love the current aesthetic.

I am really a big fan of this heft. It makes you feel alive.

It's wonderful. Took me 3 days to get used to the dimensions and weight. After that, it felt normal everyday and I could wear it as a daily, no problem. The microadjustments and the little ratcheting are absolutely genius on a watch this size and heft, and contributes greatly to the wearing experience.

New 2023 Ploprof only has the ISOFRANE strap (for now). I anticipate the new model in additional colours coming in 2024. I am hoping for the colourway the same as yours, or like the original, with a dark blue dial. Ploprof NEEDS orange minute hand! Then make it on Isofrane, or, like on this gen2 with a rubber strap and clasp with microadjustments. And ofcourse with a new and improved mesh bracelet. Looking forward!

Enjoy your watch, its a BEAST!

I've been wearing it for the last few days. The clasp/micro-adjustment are some of the best engineering I've seen for Omega clasps. I've tried to wear it upside down but don't like the look, and have worn it higher on my wrist. The crown guard unfortunately ends up hitting the back of my wrist and is making me a bit uncomfortable.

I'm worried the PloProf might not work out for me.

I'm left handed. I work with my hands and prefer the watch on my right. Used to wearing Speedmasters.

I came to my senses and am going to hold on to it and wear it a bit more. Maybe I just have to get used to it.

If you are used to wearing a watch on one side or the other, it feels very weird to wear a watch on the other side. Habits. You are left handed so you wear your watch on the right side. Keep it that way ofcourse. Wear is a bit more indeed, you don't have a small wrist so you can handle it. I wear my watches on my wrist/hand past the bone. But maybe if you are used to wearing it a bit more up the arm, like a lot of people, it can fit pretty well there, and the crown guard doesn't have to be a problem. I wear mine left, past the bone. I like it the most on the rubber strap, the mesh is a little heavier and even more present due to the weight and steel, but it's also a good fit for me.
I was a bit worried after your last message, I'm glad you came to your senses. Just give it a few weeks, if you really decide it's not for you, so be it. Possible alternatives: rubber strap, different watch (the lighter titanium one), although the steel is the coolest/toughest. Or the next gen Ploprof coming out next year, it's a little smaller and thinner, don't know if it will be only on ISOFRANE strap of coming with this clasp with micro adjustments etc, we will have to wait and see. But that price?!!
Good luck on wearing this piece of cult art!
