Inverted pushers? Different types of pushers?

Hello, wondering why inverted pushers were used? Just a design choice? If so, why? Or was there some functional purpose? Also, those tiny spillman-cased pushers was that also just a design choice? Obviously, screw down pushers screw down. What about other types of pushers?
