Introduction and watch request

Hi all

I'm new in the forum and very new in the world of watches. I stopped wearing watches when I was 18 and only recently discovered this new hobby...passion...sickness....curse?

At 48 I thought it was time to grow up and got myself a couple of tailored suits. Not that I needed them for work (I work from home, most times dressed only in shorts. Yes, I live in Thailand, it's hot.), but I just wanted to shake things up, so to speak. Then the dilemma...I'm a smoker and going around dressed all dapper with an ugly disposable plastic lighter...no no. So I got myself one of those nice vintage Cartier lighters. Much better! Then came the vintage fountain pen. Finally a couple of vintage watches I found on ebay. A Buler and a Fauver....nothing special, but I do like them.

Then the drug started to kick in.
I want another watch!
Now you see, 11 years ago I founded my company and called it Omega Racer. We sell custom made motorcycle parts for classic and modern classic motorcycles. Anyway, what other brand would be better than an Omega to celebrate my newfound passion? Still looking for that one though.

The more I researched, the more I started to appreciate the mechanics of the watches I was looking at. Truly fascinating. Now I'm spending hours watching Wristwatch Revival on Youtube diassembling and restoring watches. So I decided I wanted to have a go at it myself. Couple of days ago I got myself about a 150$ worth of tools and equipment and a couple of cheap pocket watches on ebay. Also a nice Telda chronograph! Happy days. 馃榾

To my watch request.
I'm looking to get a manual Seamaster, Deville, Geneve or similar...don't like Constellation, sorry.
From the 40s up to the 60s. Can't stand modern watches.
Not bigger than 35-36mm.
Condition is key, of course.
My budget is around 1000US$....extra point$ if it's a full set and/or has an interesting (and verifiable) story to tell.
The attached picture of the Omega is a "holy grail" kind of watch, so you get an idea of my taste.

If you have something that fits the bill, please let me know here or by direct message. Thank you very much and happy hunting!

I was going to suggest the "Recommended watches on ebay" thread but it looks like you've already gone there. I would also suggest browsing on r/watchexchange as occasionally good deals pop-up there as well. There is also a forum sale aggregator website called watchrecon, though the interface is a bit difficult sometimes. But if you're even the slightest unsure about a piece, I'm certain forum members will welcome a purchase advise/legit check thread.

Welcome,

This place is sort of like the opposite of the anonymous groups in that it encourages the addiction rather than discourages it.

I took an 18 year break from my addiction, then found the You tube videos, after a trip to Switzerland. Worse in a way that I already had the watches and tools, but then I needed to upgrade, or search for parts for project watches that have been waiting ever so long ...

I will first say welcome!

And then I will say good luck on your search. However, couching a Want To Buy ad on the Open Forums before you've reached 200 posts is a good way to get a slap on the wrist from the forum admins. Trust me, I know, I did the same thing and then quickly updated my post and started being an active member of the community and expanding my knowledge base.

Since you did make an avatar and have a really good introduction, it might have slipped by Eagle Eyed Dan. 馃榾

If you are planning on learning about the mechanisms of mechanical watches, I suggest you do not plan on practicing on any Omega wrist watch that you plan on keeping and enjoying.

Ditch the Cartier, get an S.T. DuPont for dress or a Dunhill Rolligas and for casual a zippo if you don鈥檛 mind tasting the fuel.
And plenty of 34mm Omega鈥檚 that meet your desires right here in the sales forum. You can鈥檛 post to it until you have 200 poses but you can PM any seller and start a conversation.
Welcome to the sickness.

All said well. Just welcome. 30mm movements of Omega are really nice. I did not understand well before I got one. I managed to source locally by luck but very good examples come and go on For Sale section of the forum. Watch out and I am sure you will grab one. Good luck.
