So I've been keeping an eye out for a pie-pan for a while (to the point that I lemented the value of some of them...) and finally just overpaid for one on ebay. I ended up high enough that I got their 'authenticity' guarantee, for all that is worth.

The photos on ebay were pretty good, and the dial looks clean despite the crystal, and has nice unpolished dog-legs, which I wanted, plus a date so I went for it. Well, it finally arrived today! Photos below!

Bracelet is a off-brand one that'll end up in my junk pile (Spiedel, not Omega). I have some nice leather for it. There seems to be some rotor rub damage, but it doesn't rub anymore, so someone replaced the bearing along the way (which is a relief, as I cannot find a reamer of .702mm for the life of me!).

I have a replacement crystal as this one is pretty worn, though the one I have doesn't have the cyclops. I suspect I'll prefer it without, so I'll install the replacement I have. I also have a 10 sided crown that I THINK is the right one, but I'll have to take a look.

As you can see from the timegrapher, this is a filthy, but otherwise healthy looking watch movement.

I'm going to work on this one 'soon' (I have 2 others on my bench awaiting various parts, so this is probably 'next'!). I figure I'll keep everyone here updated if I make progress!

Just curious, how did the “authenticity guarantee” work? Did they give you any paperwork or anything?

You get a card with a QR code that gives you details, plus lists brand, model, ref, serial, movement, and materials, as well as mentions it is 'authenticated'. You also get a fairly nice 'soft' touch case.

@Peemacgee in particular, but all folks welcome:

Would love your take on this one! I intend to service this to get it running well and put on leather, but anything you see that I might think about replacing/fixing would be appreciated!

When I start working on the movement/pull the crystal I'll definitely get better pictures!

Nice pickup!

Imho, you should clean and relist the bracelet on ebay. I’ve netted ≈$100 for vintage BORs from generic brands on good days.

No comments from me @ErichKeane all looks good.

My personal preference would be to ditch the cyclops crystal as they are not a standard constellation piece of kit.
But try to replace it with a genuine replacement as it’s part of the waterproofing system.

The case has obviously had a life but the lugs have remained remarkably intact.

The crown is indeed too thick to be a correct knurled crown but looks ok - better of course if you can find a correct original crown.

Congratulations- I’m sure the watch will look great once you’ve finished working on it. (And the cost will be forgotten once you wear it.

Some Constellations had signed cyclops crystals. They were optional:

I think you can still get them today if that is what you want. But I agree it is best to get a OEM crystal if possible to ensure maximum water resistance.

Thin 10-sided crowns are tough to find.

Otherwise, the bones are there for a very nice restoration project. Good luck.

Yes, we’ve seen a number of Omega-supplied cyclops crystals on Constellations.

Seemingly special order and (in my opinion) deeply incongruous on a Constellation- but what the heart wants….

Thank you! I appreciate you commenting, you always seem to have a good eye for what is and isn't 😀

I have a P5015 crystal on my bench ready for this once I'm done with service/etc. For the crown, I have one that I bought pig-in-a-poke, but marked on the bag as an ST32005, which it looks goes with a 49003? So hopefully at least close enough to the right thing to work.

I DO note that the cyclops crystal I have IS signed with the Omega logo, but is really over-polished anyway, so I was going to ditch it. I'm not a huge fan of them on non-rolex anyway.

I'll definitely keep this thread updated as I work on it! I have a Rado and a JLC Futurematic on my bench at the moment that I have to get to the point where I'm blocked on, then I intend to start on this one.

Alright, well, the JLC Futurematic barrel managed to annoy the crap out of me over quite a few hours, so I decided to put it aside for a while 😀

Letting down the mainspring was REAL squishy, I just held back the click and it sloooooowly unwound. So that'll be fun 😀

BUT, I was more shocked to see the dial is better than I dreamed. The marks I was afraid of all seem to be dust/dirt, which wiped off easily enough (I use some magic-eraser-on-a-stick things).

Case is in the ultrasonic, so I'll run it in a bit, but so far good news!

Ba-doom-tish! I spent a little bit tearing it further apart. The missing parts of the gasket above ended up being all over the movement, gumming up quite a few things! I'm a little shocked it still ran! I dont know how much is due to the seller taking the back off, or the authenticator, but there was quite a bit in quite a few places (many just in 'rock' form). The attached is probably the most frightening!

I will note that I forgot to clean the rest of it out before going in the ultrasonic, but the ultrasonic melted it completely away! The case came out REALLY clean, which I'm in love with. All of the movement but the automatic works are in the cleaning machine right now!

I realized I forgot to order the gasket, so I have that showing up Monday (and an Omega pin buckle showing up end of this week!). I ended up having a spare 550 stem, so I'll be installing that. The new crown fits the stem and fits the case (see photo, though stem is untrimmed!). Otherwise this looks pretty clean, and I'm hopeful this will be ready for wrist time real soon!

Welp... managed to break my crystal installing it. It seemed like it went 95% of the way in, so I pressed on it a little more with the crystla press, and it snapped.

Looking closer, I see there is a bezel ring: Shoudl I have removed this BEFORE installing the crystal? Or did I screw something else up?

Nope, and I wouldn’t mess with that bezel ring… in my experience if you try to remove it you’ll likely crack it.

A few minute after assembly complete (it started ~240 and came back up to 260 while I took a shower this morning). I've since installed the cannon pinion and second pinion, which together (plus the ~3 hrs since then) settled this to a bit over 250amp in all orientations.

A little lower than I'd hope of course, but I think a pretty solid improvement. The mainspring I installed probably was a bit imperfect (I unwound it off the ring, since I couldn't get it to go in with the ring after 2 attempts!) as it didn't sit perfectly flat, and the upper barrel pivot could probably use a replacement NEXT time(looser than new, not quite loose enough to warrant replacement), so I suspect there is about 20 degrees worth there.

Crystal should be showing up tomorrow evening, so outside chance I get this on my wrist this weekend, albeit with the wrong buckle.
