I've had a touch of problems with the second pinion spring (thanks to Archer for giving me the tricks!). I want to jump on the lathe and make a 'hand installer' base to support the second pinion, so I've got that as a task soon too.

The crystal showed up, and I took no chances. I cleaned the crap out of the case again, and this time added some silicone to the outside of the crystal. A reasonable amount of pressure from my crystal press, and the crystal snapped into place perfectly! So I am hitting the home stretch!

I have to:
install dial + hands.
Case the movement.
shorten the new stem/loctite the new crown.
Install a new gasket (arriving this weekend!).
Close it up.
Add a strap, plus an Omega buckle. I am between two leather straps that I'll decide on when I get it cased, then will install the buckle (arriving monday!) and call it finished.

Thanks to Archer, and inspired by @sheepdoll , I made a hand-setting 'arbor' thing for my hand press. It has a little set screw to support the hand and keeps the watch reasonably centered in the holder:

All that is left is picking a watch strap and installing the new buckle 馃榾 These are the two I picked up for it, but I'll have to see which I decide to go with.

Wow! That's looking very nice, and it's all happened much more quickly than I was expecting.

Yeah, same for me! The movement was, other than a little dirty/had dried oil, in fantastic shape. So I didn't have to wait for very much, which is usually what takes all the time. My only real wait so far was the 2nd crystal! I can typically knock out a service in 2-3 days of 'spare' time if I get a good amount of time, but they go on for weeks if there are any parts required.

I'm wearing it right now on the brown strap with an Omega pin buckle I grabbed reasonably cheaply. Sharp lugs + the crown are a great combo, I'm a huge fan so far. The dial is lovely too!

This might end up being the 1st of my 'worked on' to enter my daily wear collection!

The watch came out great! I don't like either of the straps (I'd go black or bracelet) but the watch looks terrific.

I prefer black with steel and brown with gold.

Since I also make my own straps, that tends to slow down getting things in wearable shape.

Yeah, I might invest in a 18mm textured black strap for it. I have been checking out photos since I saw @AG77 's response and think I agree 馃榾

I鈥檇 second going black. I鈥檝e also found that non padded thin strap tend to look more graceful and more authentic on vintage watches. I get the feeling that the padded items are quite a recent fashion.

Yeah, those lugs are beautiful - really draw the eye. The dial is lovely, too. And for what it's worth, I even like that brown strap馃榾

Just a suggestion of a Hobby watchmaker. I always try to give the hands a light polish with those polishing sticks. I lay them on top of it and slided them a little bit on the surface. Its a small work with a big impact on the look of the Watch i think

I often do use one of a couple of things for the hands, and I tried a little. But the laquer on the centers is real weak, so I was perhaps overly gentle. TBH, nerves got to me in a big way at the end of this one

Grabbed an 'alligator' (claims authentic, but... well... doubtful) black strap for this and think it looks great! Definitely think this is going to be a watch that I wear for quite a while!

Stunning piece! Did you change the crown?
I did! I found one that the seller couldn't figure out what it was (but in a bag that said ST32005) and looks about right. So I suspect it isn't actually the 'correct' one for this reference, but definitely closer than the previous one. And it looks about right, so I'm happy 馃榾 Dimensions to the correct one (other than being 'rounded over' at the top) is within a 0.1mm in every dimension I measured.

Wore it quite a few days now (finally switched back to a Speedy!). I'm still amazed at how small it is, is still shockingly legible/nice to wear.

On a side note: the previously 'lost' spring showed up today 馃榾 into the spare parts bin 馃榾

Er, woops! I meant to say "the replacement for the previously lost spring" showed up! I managed to find the spring a few hours after I lost it.
