Inherited 60s Omega Constellation

Taking your vintage 1960's Omega Constellation to the dealer for service is akin to taking a vintage 1960's Corvette to the local General Motors dealer (substitute Jaguar, if you live in the UK). The overwhelming majority of the service work done at a dealer will be routine maintenance and warranty work on modern watches. Vintage watch owners, like vintage car owners tend to be very particular about what is done, and how it is done. Dealers don't tend to provide the same level of individualized service and processes are set up to get the work in and out efficiently. It may not even be the same person working on the job from start to finish.
To avoid ADs when servicing vintage seems to be a view shared by a lot of people. When asking on the Swedish forum Klocksnack I got recommended a guy in Stockholm who specialized in vintage Omega and from my understanding has parts account with Omega. I will call him on Monday. Then again I feel it is time to make up my mind and stop overcomplicating things.

Today I collected the watch from the watchmaker after having it serviced. According to him it runs very well with good power reserve. Since recieving it five hours ago it hasn't deviated a second. Seconds hand is now the correct one, the original crown is still there and no polishing was done. I absolutely love the watch and Iook forward to giving it a lot of time on my wrist 😀 Thanks again for all the help!

Fantastic - it was clear from the pics in your first post that the watch had potential to clean up nicely, and it certainly has!

And now the important question: which watchmaker did you choose in the end ? AD? Local, first guy? Somebody else? And how much in US$ did you pay ?

I went with an independent watchmaker in Stockholm with Omega parts account that was recommended to me on a Swedish forum. The reason for not going with the local watchmaker was that it would, from my understanding, have been difficult to source the correct seconds hand without a watchmaker with parts account. Cutting the existing seconds hand would in my opinion have been a very unnecessary compromise and I therefore gladly spent a couple of hours in the car to get the correct one. I paid $538 which was the same price as quoted by the local watchmaker and about $100 cheaper than the AD.

if you derived no other value from coming to OF, it was worth it just to have followed this course of action for servicing your watch 👍

Major congrats and so glad to hear our advice was helpful!
The watch looks great on your wrist, would you kindly share some pictures taken in daylight? Or am I wrong thinking this is indoors with artificial lighting?

In any event wear it in good spirits and in the best of health. 👍

Thanks! You are absolutely correct, I took the pictures yesterday evening when I got home. Here are a couple more in "daylight", it is very gloomy outside and I only have my phone for camera so I am not sure if they are any better. A member suggested that the original buckle might be of interest to some so I included a picture of it as well.

I dont think Omega buckles have a part number on them.
Correct gold buckles are like hen’s teeth and even if you can find one they very expensive.

Better off looking for a period correct ‘plaque d’or’ version.

I think the OP’s squarish buckle is possibly for a later version (‘66-ish) if you are thinking about your 14382.

Perhaps look at the Omega buckle thread for inspiration?

Thanks Philip, I wasn’t clear enough 😀

I would like to buy a brand new gold plated omega buckle for my Connie. I know that you can buy a SS version for 50€, and I guess they also have the gold plated version but do not have the part number. Maybe someone have it?

ah! I see.

IIRC the one @Janne has is an original 18k buckle. (hence asking for him to show it)

Can't help with the serial for a new one I'm afraid - best of luck in finding one
