No worries, Freddie, a valid, obvious question I also pondered and have come across!

Bill's not in the sales forum here, we can ask away!

What a privilege it is to gain insight from world-class, museum level collectors that will converse with aspiring world-class collector's such as us.
Hi UB

Even when i post something for sale... ask .....

Hi UB

Thanks Bill,
I wonder if @kyle L has a dial for mine!

Be sure and show us the finished product, curious if you are going to switch the furniture? My wife always does!

have no clue ifi am going to use it or not....

This bring up another example when to pull the trigger....

When you come across a dial and hands even with pink gold markers and hands... and your not sure if you will even use it...

PULL THE TRIGGER. If you blink you will miss it !

@Bill Sohne you find the most amazing watches. I never thought I’d want a tank style watch because I have tiny wrists, but it is very elegant. Congratulations.

That Omega does have an appealing elegance from a bygone era. It's enough to make one want one.

Hi @FREDMAYCOIN

If my memory serves me correctly they also did the Omega Marine std cases !!! see my post on my 14k sold gold one... you see the casemakers mark inside the key... #2 for F. Baumgartner SA

https://omegaforums.net/threads/gold-rush-14k-omega-marine-deluxe.70426/

Hey @Tony C. sorry to spill the beans on F. Baumgartner SA....

Tony will most likely add his comments as well...

Good Hunting

Bill

Nice catch, Bill! And no problem re: Baumgartner, though he shouldn't be confused with the far more prolific Borgel or Taubert. The latter two used the trademark shown in my avatar for many decades. Frédéric (not Francis) Baumgartner did design the Omega Marine and Marine Standard cases (and used a different "key" trademark stamp), and they were apparently his only two waterproof designs.

The unequivocal expert on these cases and manufacturers is David Boettcher, who has written extensively on the topic on a variety of sites. Here is a link to a good summary of the topic, including some patent drawings of the cases used on the Omegas:

Bill, congratulations on a rare find. I absolutely understand buying in any condition when something is rare enough and I wouldn't dream of faulting you.

That said (you knew there was a "but" 😉 ) .. it seems out of proportion. This is ONLY personal preference and no criticism. Any chance of a side on photo? I'd love to see the profile of that glass. It kind of reminds me of some of the Handley cases for Rolex. Oddly, I'm not a huge fan of those either but it never stopped me buying them when I see them!

Hi tony

Maybe I was not clear the “ key “ stamp I am referring to is a casemarkers mark in the shap of a key and would have a number stamped inside of the key to identify the case maker in this case it’s had a #2 stamped inside to id the case was made by Baumgartner.

Thanks for bring up David work as I having a time remembering the spelling of his last name.

Thanks Bill - I like it more now with that view. I don't know who went first or if it was simply both following fashion but there are real similarities to the Rolex, Unicorn et al cases from Handley in Oz. I'll see if I don't have some photos to show later.

Also let me know what strap width the cases from Handley take as the one i have takes a 22 mm strap...

Great Omega, I've had no luck running across an Omega but Gruen had a version, with a beveled crystal.

24mm lug width, but a notch to get the look at 18mm

36mm tall

Certainly will do but it'll have to wait til the weekend. I've just checked and realised that watch isn't here. I am drawn to these domed or highly curved crystals. They are so very much of their time, though buggers to find replacements for.

I had a look online for images and came up pretty dry. This one is similar to what I had in mind, if it has the same curved profile (credit to bombers157 on WUS):

Looking forward to seeing the watch with the “new” original dial. 👍
