Hey guys - I wrote a column this week about the story behind my Nina Rindt and figured some of you would be interested in checking it out. Link: https://watchpatina.com/2016/06/02/my-grail-watch-finds-its-way-home/ Cheers, Rob
Nice write up Rob. You ommited the purchase price I noticed from your watch that it came with a JB Champion brick bracelet which were supplied predominantly in the US market instead of Gay Freres.
Best watch story I've ever read. Period. Congratulations on your find, and thanks for sharing the story.
I have had a couple of frustrating weeks trawling the usual sites etc and was about to give up for a while and then you posted this fantastic article. Great story and got me refreshed again for the hunt
So is the bezel identical to a DO90 Speedmaster bezel, but just smaller? At least I assume it is smaller given that the case size is reported at 36mm for the UGNR. I saw from the Hodinkee article that the case manufacturer is Huguenin Frères - so that brings up an interesting question - did HF make the bezel inserts as well for the SMP? I wouldn't think so considering that the CB cases have the same bezel inserts. Anyway, just wondering.
Thanks for all the nice comments, guys! It was such a freakish story that it didn't really take any creative juice to write about it. I'm still trying to work out how it happened...
Beautiful story Rob! An huge congrats! As we have skyped, I can vouch for that you're one helluva handsome guy, despite the severe hangover and the baseball hat Why have the good looking guy's all the luck?
Hahaha, the hangover wasn't THAT severe looking/sounding, hopefully! You've had plenty of luck as well, my friend . Thanks for the well wishes.
Congrats Rob! That is a fantastic story. And a fantastic watch. It certainly has me buoyed up to continue the hunt my end. Thanks for sharing and enjoy the new lady
Bravo mate! Saw this in instagram when you first acquired her. That is the dream way of finding a grail indeed!
Great story! Makes me ponder where all the other pieces in our collections have travelled during their lifetimes... "If these watches could talk...!"
