We have for a long time debated and observed differences in cases, and finally this amazing study has appeared

Link here:

https://www.chronoholic.com/post/the-omega-speedmaster-professional-a-case-study

this is the best piece of hands on research I have seen since MWO.

I won’t reproduce any here - go and read it if you are curious about identifying the different speedmaster mid case.

EDIT: I am not the author - so Instead of a like, send some love to the author @ndgal !

This makes me wonder how many Speedmaster cases a person can stack before they fall over!

Kidding aside, great stuff!

Such an accumulation of pristine cases on the same pic is dizzying 😲

Thanks a lot, very interesting and surprising that it’s been such neglected until now !

Is it normal that on some references (especially visible on mk6 case for instance), the external brushing / polished delimitation (crown side) is different on the upper and lower lugs? Kind of surprising to have two profiles on the same watch, but I might be Swisser than a Swiss here 😁

Always wondered how those cases were industrially processed and polished during this era 😕

Very interesting! I always thought the 145.012 had a slimmer case, this shows it in excellent detail.

WOW. Those pictures are great. They say true genius is taking something complicated and making it simple to understand. Genius. (Not that I am excited about learning the difference between more marks. 😉) And that's the first blog post?!!

Nadav also has beautiful watches for sale on occasions, for anyone lucky enough to score one. Buy the seller.

This definitely knocks me off my mindset of Omega building "whatever is in the parts boxes next" approach in the 60s. Looks like they controlled the builds more carefully than I thought, OR maybe its that the cases were made to production order and the other bits were the parts bin type. Hmmmm

Someone should transfer all the OP likes to @ndgal 😁 How come no pics of the flat facet under the ends of the lyre-lugs (imho they are also a good tell!). Eagerly awaiting the Straight Lug version 👍👍👍
