The '70s was a tough period in the Big Apple's history, but I have fond memories, and this photo is evocative.

I picked up a friend from a very drab industrial area yesterday. I waited in a long narrow laneway bordered on one side by a large factory/warehouse, whose wall extending for over 120 metres has for a long time been covered in ugly graffiti and tags.

Yesterday however it was transformed by this mural. The first image shows only about 20% of the total length. I guess the property owner had commissioned it because it was so large - and it would not have been cheap. Seeing this unexpected riot of colour and form lifted my spirits.

My phone does not do this scene from tonight’s evening ramble justice.
Not the Serengeti, but it will do for the UK on a Sunday evening in March :0)

Created by Daria Marchenko, an artist from Ukraine. For the picture, she used 5000 bullet shells collected from the streets of Ukraine.
She named it "The Face of War".
Please zoom to see the details.

Dear God in heaven. ::facepalm1:: The face of evil.
Can't "like", and I'm really not sure it belongs on this particular thread. But it is a hugely thought-provoking piece, and never so relevant. What really brings tears to my eyes though is the fact that this piece was created seven years ago. We just don't learn.

[I couldn't help reacting to Pun's post. But for the sake of this thread, I will quite understand if mods want to delete it.]

I didn't know that it was done 7 years ago. I found it inspiring as it showed artistic creativity in a sombre way. It also conveyed a deep meaning to me as well. (If it is not appropriate, moderator may delete) Regards
