I am 99% on lockdown but I have had to make a couple of legitimate / approved trips into London. Not a sightseeing trip (also out of respect to the rules and front line workers) but I did grab some images on the phone for posterity. I know the public get some bad press but tube and bus use is down between 85 and 95 percent so most people are doing the right thing. It is crazy to see stations and the tube like this - also a very rare shot of the Harry Potter station without 3000 fans struggling to get in. The raptor is used to keep away the pigeons at Kings Cross station - he is allowed to free fly now most of those pesky humans are out of the way.
I tried to avoid the tube which took me over London bridge - so I grabbed a quick shot of Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast - which also made me reflect on the Tower Bridge Hunter jet incident - crazy / talented guy to fly through that :0) https://omegaforums.net/threads/hawker-hunter-london-tower-bridge-incident.94380/
I went for a bike ride through Manhattan the other week. Went down 6th Avenue on a sunny Saturday morning and the streets were virtually empty. A pretty eerie but awesome experience. Popular landmarks were also empty. Here’s a shot outside NY Public Library
I've been getting out a couple of times a week for a cycle (approved, very socially distant, exercise) - London without all the people and traffic is lovely!
Ah yeah mate. We're all keepin' outa the big smoke down here as well. No sense goin' inta the city and gettin' all germy an stuff. We just go to the beach where it's safe. Typical bloody Sydneyans
Fantastic pics. I mean it’s not cool no one is around but British history always fascinated me. I’m a bit of a revolutionary war buff so I fell into some UK history as I read. I hope to get the opportunity to visit someday I don’t think it will be anytime soon with the world on pause and whatnot
Nice images, especially the Kings Cross geodesic concours which I pass through only a few times a year. Folding bike eh? That could be a fun addition....
As a resident of the U.S., I am reminded by these photos of how badly our urban public transit systems lag those of most other industrialized countries. While some of our public transit systems are miracles of engineering that move millions of people daily - New York City comes to mind - many include crumbling infrastructure, dirty stations, antiquated equipment and lack of adequate security. It’s really a shame in one of the world’s wealthiest nations. We could learn a great deal from our European and Asian neighbors.
Before lockdown, I hadn’t ridden it since 2016, when I was commuting to work and back every day (10km each way). Now that I can’t swim every day, the Brompton has been put back into action. Getting out for a couple of 30-40km rides a week, taking in the sites, getting out of my house (and own head!).
Oz stands for Australia?????? I only knew a fairy tale with that name. OF is indeed full of lessons of all kinds!! The pics look postapocalyptic somehow....
It can be a bit of a mixed bag - For London there are older stations / trains - depends on the route.
