I got scammed on a different site for a nice watch I paid for. I paid via venmo, the seller said he would send a tracking number. I asked a dozen times for the tracking number over 3 days and then he ghosted me. How does anyone trust anyone today? Major

I'm sorry to hear that. Where did you purchase?

I'm not familiar with Venmo, but they do have some buyer protection for "goods and services" payments.

It was on a Facebook page.....selling vintage watches. The seller was William Uptain. I paid $350 for a vintage Longines and he said he would send me the tracking number. I asked for that a dozen times over 3 days and then he ghosted me. He said he sent the watch 2 day USPS but it's been 6 days now...no watch and I can't contact him. Who do you trust now anymore? I'm not rich, I'm a retired veteran and this is BS!

If they don’t accept PayPal and I don’t know them from this forum or others, then we don’t do business. If I have to pay for PayPal, I will, just make the deal worth it.

I find that if a seller absolutely refuses, then they must have something to hide.

Venmo is simply a money transfer service, one of many. No protection whatsoever.

Sorry to hear you were taken advantage of.

Here’s a site that you can peruse for vintage Hamilton:

https://www.vintagehamilton.com/

I’m not sure about the pricing there — bound to be some premium. But it may help you scope out what you like.
Quick question.... what is wrong with paying a premium for a watch that the seller stands behind ? and that seller seems to be knowledgeable about the products he sells... It more then just paying for a condition of a watch ... when you go to a seller like the one above...

just my two cents.

Well, I don't think I said it's wrong to pay a premium here. I realized that my initial comment might have a negative tone, so I tried to clarify:
Just to clarify, I'm not saying the prices are unreasonable at that site. I'm saying that I'm not sure because I don't follow these closely...

And yes, I agree, reasons for paying a premium can extend beyond condition. I provided a link to that site because it seemed like a useful resource and a potentially good place to make a purchase.
