I've been thinking a bit more about this. Perhaps I haven't found it yet? I'll keep looking.

Have fun

It’d certainly be for me a speedy. Bought my first just recently however this year already have bought 4 including the yet to arrive gold 50th.
Oddly though if I had to kept just one it’d be the least expensive my FOIS, just has become my favorite daily.

This one from the late 1940's. Preferably in steel but beggars can't be too discerning....

The new 1948's are lovely - but the original? That's my Grail.

My personal pick would be my Constellation Globemaster, but I think that the SMPc is probably Omega’s best all-rounder.

It is the SS Globemaster opaline silver dial. It’s a one watch does everything for me. Thankfully I own it.

Agreed, but it’s the blue dial version that does it for me.

Lots of good examples of 'one only' Omegas. But to me the key model that has defined Omega over the last five decades is the Speedmaster. I've had at least one Speedmaster in my collection since 1972, but the one that really touches all bases is fairly new, the Apollo 8 Dark Side of the Moon. The Apollo 8 mission was the first crewed flight of the Saturn V rocket, the first time men had escaped earth's gravity, the first visit to the moon, and Earthrise. People finally understood that all that 'going to the moon' talk was real, it was happening!

The Apollo 8 watch is a modern size made out of modern material, but still has a movement that has a lot of the original DNA brought to life with a very unique finish representing the light and dark sides of the moon. And it is thinner to boot. A very easy to wear watch and nice to look at during the day. If I could only have one Omega I'd take the Apollo 8.

For variety, I narrowed my modern Omega watches down to two keepers years ago, different uses and it would be hard to choose which to keep if it would only be one.

My PO purchased new May 2005 for its versatility? Or my dressy LE DeVille original coaxial introduced in 1999 and also purchased new by me?

I'm glad I don't need to choose. 😉

Kind regards,
Tim

Great comment (and watches)! Those of us that have more than one and don’t have to choose are very fortunate (like you, I have two...so far).

I had that hypothetical situation in real life when I decided to become a 1 watch guy.
My choice was this:

But then I realized, I MUST have more choice so started to rebuild my collection again...😀

I must admit of the many watches I have owned AT's and Datejusts came the closest for the one watch to do everything. Rugged, good water resistance with screw down crowns, nice enough bracelet options and even leather straps and better under the cuff for business dress than the larger sports models.

I need to add another to my collection.🙁

Good thing we don't have to choose only one, but I'll play.

I can get a good dive watch from many other brands, although I love my Ti Planet Ocean 9300 the most which I wear about 6 out of 7 days a week. But the Speedmaster Pro Moonwatch is an Omega exclusive, so it would have to be some form of the Speedy Pro. Picking which Speedy is the harder part.

I love my 3572.50 with Hesalite crystal and sapphire caseback, which looks like the traditional moonwatch from the front, but with 50M WR, Superluminova dial, and a beautiful movement seen through the display caseback. Vintage doesn't have as much draw to me, because I want my watch to be a GADA (go anywhere do anything), so it will get wet and need to tell me the time in the dark.

But my favorite Speedy dials are reverse panda's like my ST1 or a Speedyorite (Apollo Soyuz Meteorite), but also the brilliant white dials of the Silver Snoopy Award and the Alaska Project dials appeal to me too (more than the creme colored white Italina dial, but less than the panda). So, my ST1 would more likely survive the cut if I had to sell everything else.

Given free will, I would not pick a Daytona over a Speedy, and I would not pick a Submariner over my Planet Oceans. But the Rolex are watches I like to add to the rotation.
