If Omega were to release a new Flightmaster?

If in the unlikely event, Omega were to release a new Flightmaster, what might it be like and what features would you want?
A post elsewhere that mistakenly mentioned a "new Flightmaster" got me thinking about this, It would of course have to have a similar shape, but what else?
A pert of me says mechanical....but for some seriously cool features maybe quartz would be the go.
here are some out there ideas: it would of course be fully analog with chronograph and GMT complications, but perhaps the dial could be an LCD screen that you could change the colour to suit your clothes of mood, the indicies could possibly also light up in different colours, and as the Flighty has an internal rotating bezel it could be part of the screen and have changeable modes such as tachymetre, pulsations, telemetre and even a slide rule function. of course all these are largely useless in practical terms but what about watch collecting is realistically practical?

I realise that a smart watch could offer all these features and more, but nowhere near as cool!

Just some out there thoughts!

I don't know if Omega still does non-mechanical watches any more, so I suspect the cramming of so many complications (or functions) into a mechanical base would be difficult, and therefore, very expensive.

The multi-function Speedie X-33 and it's siblings are probablly the closest we will ever get.

Swatch could possibly come up with something "smart watch" based I spose.

The fighty does have quite a thick ad large case so that might help with the space.
I have an analog watch somewhere that has a screen dial that changes colour from black to red at the push of a button so such things do exist

Didn't SEIKO get all the rights for the name " flightmaster " ?

I dunno, I think Omega's Flightmaster predated Seiko's so I would've been slack of them not to clout on the name, but then why would they let Seiko to use it, unless someone else already had it and didn't care who used it????? What sort of cock up would let Seiko beat them to using the name and if so how did Omega get away with using the name for almost a decade?

It's an interesting question, spaceflight-wise I know Breitling didn't use the name " Astronaut " for their mid-1960s Navitimer chronographs as " Astronaut " was already used by Accutron for their battery-powered tuning fork movement pilot watches... so Breitling went with Navitimer " Cosmonaute "

Rights to the name aside, you just have to look at how fast this thread sunk to @ 75th on the latest posting list in @18hrs to show how little interest there is for a new Flightmaster even amongst die hard Omega enthusiasts, what hope would they have selling it to the great unwashed general public? Whilst this is not exactly proof, it must remain an indicator of how poorly it would sell especially when you consider the original was a bit hard to sell and didn't exactly leap off the shelves.

And you have had to post half the comments to keep this thread going. ::facepalm1::

That's the point of a discussion someone makes a point and someone else replies then there is a to and fro. otherwise it's a series of stand alone statements. and it's logical as I the OP would be engaged in the discussion as I was interested enough in the subject to bother starting the thread in the first place. But since you seem to have no interest in the subject of the thread we probably wont hear from you again in this thread will we

I think the Flightmaster is a great watch. The case reminds me of my Zodiac Astrographic SST. But I don't think Omega will bring it back.

Neither do I, as I pretty well said in my opening line: "If in the unlikely event, Omega were to release a new Flightmaster"

If Omega were to release a new Flightmaster it would compete with the new Pilot. So I guess a new Flightmaster would look a lot like the Pilot. It doesn't have the iconic thick case but maybe that's okay.

The old flightmaster is super cool! BUT, I would love some sort of 24 hr bezel instead of the 60 mins bezel. OR, perhaps, as-well-as.

@Fish70: That is an absolutely stunning one! There is one for sale in the classifieds here that I'm very tempted by as well, but vintage stuff kinda scares me.

I bet WatchworksPDX could help you out with the vintage stuff, in terms of making sure that it is watertight and running properly. Unless your concern is just, damaging it?

I wear it at least once a week and it was serviced by Omega about a year ago so it is vintage but readily worked on.

WatchworksPDX actually doesn't do watch servicing anymore. Kelly at ArtOfTheWatch is the only real servicer in the area. His communication is pretty poor (he only does emails 1x a day, and doesn't actually get through them all, and doesn't always respond), but his work is great! I had him service my Exp2, Rolex Batman, and Seamaster 300m Chrono, all of which he did a great job on.

I ALSO want to have him look at my Seamaster 167.007 eventually. That all said, service times take a VERY long time and are pretty costly. I DO like that he is localish and is willing sometimes to do a local meet up for pickup/dropoff (at a starbucks) as well, though I only took advantage of that 1 of the 3 times I saw him.

Wait- when did WatchworksPDX make this change?

Tagging @pdxleaf do you know if this is correct?

The Flightmaster vintage is unique due to the polishing. That is a blessing and a curse if you scratch it,
