Identification of older Omega Seamaster

Hi everyone,

I received this watch about 34 years ago as a graduation present. I wore it, and like a typical kid I didn’t treat it with kid gloves. I had it worked in twice (first time the shop put some glow in the dark crap in the watch hands which disfigured them a bit). Not sure where the second service was.

Just wondering what year it might be, and where would be a good place to send it to get it cleaned up and possibly have the hands fixed/replaced.

Thanks!

Also, is it unusual that it doesn’t say “Seamaster” on the dial?
From my little experience, Omega has many dial variations with the same reference. So, I think it's possible not to have Seamaster on the dial. Your dial still looks very good.

IMO: This looks like a reference 165.020 with a refinished dial (AUTO isn't in line with MATIC). Your best bet is to get the watch serviced by a local watchmaker.

Thanks. That part always bugged me. Is there way to get the dial refinished properly so that things line up? It’s not about the watch value, other than sentimental value. It just that the AUTOMATIC being off like that just bothers me.

Yes, the dial could be refinished again but the return on the investment would be poor. I'd just get the movement serviced if the goal was to wear the watch regularly again. Then if the dial/hands were bothering me, I'd be trying to find the proper replacements through eBay.

Agree with 165.020. I also agree that the dial is refinished.
While it’s not unheard of to find Seamasters without ‘seamaster’ on the dial for some models such as 165.002, you don’t see this on 165.020’s. The text is also wrong and the minute marks aren’t quite right so def a redial

Dang. My ex-wife sent this off years ago as a favor to get serviced. She assured me that it went to omega, but clearly it went somewhere else.

What would I be looking at to get the correct parts for it? I checked eBay as suggested, but nothing jumped out immediately.

It won’t be easy to find an original dial. It’s time more than money. It will likely take months and cost a few hundred. If it has significant sentimental value, it might be worth trying to find a whole watch with a bad case and good dial and using that.
