I bought a Seamaster (what’s the catch?)

So I bought a Seamaster off eBay (one of the few in my price range). The seller has listed a few issues as listed in the description below, I realise the Watch is running slow but it will be fine for my purposes as it won’t be an everyday Watch. Just wondering if I’m missing anything glaringly wrong with the Watch, as the dial looks a bit pristine for the price, I’m assuming it’s an okish redial. Any advice greatly appreciated!

Seller description:
“Watch is in running condition but warch is loosing time.watch may loose 5 to 8 mints in 24 hours .
therefore selling at low price.. no return.. bargain

please note: winding 1 piece stem and crown fitted. i am unable to show the inside pictures of the watch as these rare model watches are not easy to open and i dont wanted to damage the watch by opening it these model watches open from the top section by removing the crystal”

Crown is wrong. I don't know if is just the photo, but from the back the 5 o'clock lug looks bent. I would also say it is a redial.
I would be more concerned with what I cant see. Namely the movement, especially if it is running at -5minutes a day, and it isn't going to be much fun if you ever want to service the watch with a once peice crown and a monocoque case.

I suppose all of the above is moot, depending on how much of a "bargain" it was?

Yup, it has been redialed, the case is "soft" and the hands are wrong.
As above, the crown has been changed.

If you like it, congrats 👍

Definitely a redial and not a good one. It's a Seamaster and/or a DeVille, not a 600.

Case is poor, and clearly needs a service if it's losing time like that. Was it eBay 'buy it now'? I'd return it. Cheap is often not good value.

Regardless of the price it wasn't a "catch", way too much wrong with it.

Oh dear, crap should have realised it was a DeVille case! Although if my budget had stretched to a Seamaster DeVille originally I would have picked that. Think I’ll take your advice & try to cancel the purchase, cud b a bit of a frankenwatch. Guess I’m not an expert after looking at the forum for a few hours Thanks a million for the input!

One should look at this forum for a few months not a few hours before making a purchase.

If it was a BIN then you have the option to return it within 14 days regardless of what the seller says about returns. You will just have to pay the postage both ways unless you can show that it was wrongly described.

Well eBay can’t cancel the order, I have contacted the seller to request the cancellation, only purchased a few hours ago so I would be surprised if it’s already dispatched. Hoping my error is not too costly! Think it’ll be back to a good old Casio digital for me, vintage seems risky for the uninitiated(simpleton)

If you are interested in vintage, please have a look at the forums for sale section. I guarantee something you like will come along for a good price

Is there somewhere that noobs all congregate that we can place a sign stating "Educate First, Buy Second"?
Oh, wait... Do you think eBay will allow it?

Just post a watch before you buy. People will help. But there are some ground rules you need to know before buying omega. If you follow these you have a good chance you're buying something genuine.

Not only won't they allow it, they're actually counting on n00bs for income. Stupid inexperienced purchases must be a decent portion of the sales made on eBay, so they'd lose a LOT of money.

Show off. 😜 (Nice watch, BTW)

Looking at your screen name, I think something like "Shazam's unsuperhero cousin" or something similar might have been mildly amusing.

Could just be an expensive lesson learnt. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, as I have no watch funds. However, I'm able to use this time to learn using the available resources on this forum plus experienced members advice.

do your homework before parting with your ur hard earned cash!

Phew!!! Confirmation the order has been cancelled by eBay, surprisingly reasonable seller considering the product. Thanks a million for the advice at the start, saved me a lot of time & hassle, great resource.

Haha. Well, in my youth I played in the national youth team and I saw a guy playing on the Olympics in Barcelona and he became my hero. It's like the Pele, Gretzky, Jordan of field hockey. I still use his name... I know what you are thinking: WTF is field hockey!?! Yes, they dont play just on ice...

Maybe we should start a thread: where does your name come from? Or maybe not...

We know what field hockey is in the US. It's the sport the girls play in high school when it isn't softball season.
