How to get this movement out of the case.

I am having trouble getting this movement out of the case. It’s a vintage omega automatic 354. Watch was running fine until I put the case back back on and the seconds hand stopped working. Seems the flywheel isn’t connecting to the gears now. Any advice?

Take a picture of the front, but I'd bet that it is a 'front loader' (that is, you have to remove the crystal and/or bezel to get it out).

It is missing at least 1 case clamp (you can see where it would go in the center of the automatic-bridge-thing).

I took that case clamp out to help remove it

Ah! Right, the 354 bumpers have a 'pin' opposite the balance that you have to rotate the movement to disengage. I don't THINK yours is a front-loader (it doesn't seem to be

You can see it about 4-oclock in this photo:

IIRC, that has to line up with a cutout, my cutout was where the clamp is, but I'm not sure. I don't see one on your movement, so perhaps the bumper is covering it? I THINK it is between the bottom lugs.

IF it is tight, you might have to pull the crystal anyway to help 'push' it out, but I'd be surprised if that was the case.

Someone took a sharpie pen to that dial. The hands are a bit too long for it.

As noted the crystal holds the dial in place. May have a removable bezel what holds the crystal and dial.

Edit: sometimes the movement fits tight as well. To me it does not look like the movement rotates. There are grooves where the pin and clamp fit into. They can be quite tight.

She'd know better than me 😀 She has more of these (in parts I understand) than any reasonable person has ever 😁

And yes, definitely a re-dial.

You guys were definitely right. Got it out through the front. Watch ran beautifully until recently it seems the fly wheel disconnected from the seconds hand and now the seconds hand doesn’t move and the movement doesn’t tick. Any advice there?

Also is there an example of a correct dial I should put on it?

I'm not terribly sure what you mean by that (fly wheel disconnected?). I suspect there is some sort of broken something-or-other that needs attention, but it isn't clear what that means. IF it isn't tick at all, likely something is stopping the wheel train or the balance, I'd have to see stuff disassembled to tell.

As far as a dial: You want to measure the dial Outer Diameter and search SOMEWHERE for a dial of that size that is advertised to fit a 354. They are available as low as ~$170 on up! As to whether that dial would be correct for the case, you'd have to search around and see if one appears in someone else's photos, there isn't really a database that has them.

Sounds like I’m cooked on this. Probably just sell it for parts then. Thank you for the help with this! Really appreciate it

Not putting you down but if you aren’t sure on how to remove the movement and you are calling parts by names they aren’t, then maybe you need a watchmaker to help. It seems a bit out of your skill level.

This is how damage occurs and I am first to put my hand up for it too. I made a few mistakes in my watchmaking journey. Give it to a watchmaker and then go look for a dial on eBay that is original to this model.
