Honestly, I used to think that beating the crap out of my watch was great. The reason we are getting so protective is because of the brand. If we are supposed to treat it like tools, then price them like tools.

Bring the price back to $324 for a rolex cosmograph or omega speedmaster pro and I will beat the crap out of all my watches.

There's not too much of a defense when it comes to Rolex pricing as it is a bit outrageous but rising cost of goods surpassing inflation is a very real and witnessed in almost everything... getting brand new cars for a few thousand $$, coffee for a nickel, etc. None of those things have stayed at their inflationary equivalents either for the most part. Everything just costs... more money than it used to. 🙁

be careful what you wish for because this would result in the salaries being brought back to that timeperiod.😲

Its that first scratch, you buy this lovely shiny watch, it looks stunning sitting in its box, you remove it and put it on your wrist and off you go your perfect watch sparkling in the sunshine.

A while later and........ its there, that scratch, how the foxtrot did that happen, you've been so careful but its there staring directly at you, its huge, everyone looking at you can see this massive scratch on your new watch, nooooo!!!!!

And thats it your new sparkly, shiny watch has gone, consigned to history, now you can sit back, enjoy your new watch and not worry about getting it scratched.

😀

Mine are titanium or ceramic, which seems to deal with the issue beautifully 😀

I don't support your logic bro. Can you dream of going back to similar wages and living conditions when they used to be sold at that price?
An emphatic NO.

I guess I wouldn't know if I'd rather live in today or the 60's, 70's, 80's...

How often (if at all) do you folks do it?
I have a Bergeon satin finish block. I use that to dress the clasp cover.

A question for the neurotic and insane... like me! I am still in the honeymoon phase with my new PO 8900 so any ding on it drives me a little nuts. All my other watches have so much wear the scratches just kinda blend in. The clasp on this particular bracelet picks up micro scratches like crazy. I finally broke down and hit it with a scotch bright pad and its like new again. How often (if at all) do you folks do it?

I'm the proud new owner of the giant clasp attached to my Omega 300m. I read another post a few weeks ago about using 3M protectant film (same film used on clear car bras), and so I purchased a small role from Amazon. Wallah! No more daily scratch accumulation on my clasp. I, too, was not happy with how easy it scratched. (3000 grit sand paper did the trick to fix the scratches. The 300m "brushed" finish is too fine and linear for scotch bright.

It really does work, and it looks good too.

I just am careful as best I can be. Other than that I'd just have it done during service if it really needed it.

Do you wrap a cover around the watch head as well? My watches get more prominent scratches there only....

That would be much more challenging and noticeable. The clasp is nice and flat with straight sides.
