I’d hope the charity would throw away the fakes.

Larry if you held an accordion you would look just like our family friend. i'm sure someone must have already mentioned the resemblance? 😁

oh by the way... just to keep this on topic with watches, he wears a Tag Heuer Stainless "Link" model.

When I worked in L.A. our office had about 65-70 people. One guy wore a Tag (modern, Formula 1 I think), I usually wore my 90s Seamaster Bond, and the CFO wore a date Submariner his father had given him from the year he was born (late 70s). Pretty much everyone else who wore a watch wore an Apple watch, or none at all. The three of us were the 'watch guys'.

Walking around though, especially in certain parts of the city, I'd see everything from vintage Daytonas to the occasional (and actually more uncommon) pieces like 1940s Elgin DeLuxes and early Hamilton Venturas, etc. L.A. is fascinating for people watching.

Strangely, here in GA, I actually bump into people wearing more Speedmasters and Rolex sport models than any other high end or 'quirky' watches. The guy who trimmed the trees where I work showed up wearing a beautiful Speedy Pro and we ended up cheerfully arguing Seamaster vs. Speedy for ten minutes. Go figure. 🙄

I saw a guy with a vintage matte 5512 at Whole Foods. He was 2 people in front of me, otherwise I would have asked if he wanted to sell 😝

Rarely see anything of import.

I had a pretty amazing experience today. I was at a wine retailer that does a Saturday afternoon tasting every week. There was an old guy with a Vietnam Vet cap on, which spurred me to bring up the Roadshow guy to the group. Several of us had seen it, including the vet's wife, and we talked about it for a bit. I joked to the vet, "bet you wished you had bought a Rolex while you were over there." He grinned and pulled his sleeve back and showed a perfect, vintage, yellow patina'd lume Red Submariner. Said he bought it in 1969 for $175!
Did you get a pic?

As a photographer I've ended up falling into shooting a few weddings. In the wild in the last 6 months, off the top of my head: JLC Duometre Spherotourbillon, a Vacheron Constantin Patrimony QP, JLC Reverso, Cartier Tank in Platinum (all at one event), a handful of Submariners, a Rolex 16520, a gentleman wearing a nice LE Tag Heuer Monaco with his tux, and a Sky-Dweller.

But I actually was more excited when I sat down last night for Valentine's Day and a guy at the table next to us eating pizza was wearing a Speedy. Surprised me a bit more than the more high-end weddings and we had a nice conversation.

I ran into a guy wearing a Patek Nautilus the other day. But about 6 feet away I knew it was a fake.

I saw a guy tonight wearing a lovely JLC Master control moonphase on a bond Nato. I had to bite my tongue a bit, as much as I'm not a watch snob or have any bad feelings towards Nato's I really felt the urge to suggest putting that thing on an appropriate strap. I then realised that he is enjoying it that way and it's not offending anyone so who cares.

I find it quite amazing how many seikos I see. Mostly quartz but if someone does discuss their seiko with me I do mention cheap automatics are available. It’s amazing how many people aren’t familiar with automatic watches. I very rarely see anything nice in my area. My wife and I watch a lot of news together and I try to pick out what all the talking heads are wearing. That’s about all the excitement I get seeing watches in the wild. My wife gets annoyed at my pointing out newscasters watches and just recently started telling me I’m wrong every time I point one out. I guess it’s here method of annoying me back.

Customer, maybe 65 to 70 years old bought some books in our store,
when paying I saw he had a very nice looking Flightmaster with original steel bracelet on his wrist.
Asked him about the watch, he said he received it on his graduation from highschool (must be beginning of the 70s) and wore it since then

Sorry no picture 🙁

Just before the COVID lockdowns happened I went with a friend into a boutique and the young salesman, looked to be in his early 20's, was wearing a beautiful vintage Heuer Autavia with a pepsi bezel. He was so excited that I noticed it and told me if was his grandfather's watch and that he enjoys it tremendously. I doubt he is aware of it's value, but in any case the personal value to him was immense. It was a very rare occasion where I got to engage a young watch owner who was actually interested and excited to share his passion for at least this one piece.
