How often do you see ANY nice watch in the wild?

Cleared a C130 flight the other night and all the crew had pilot watches of some sort.
Didn’t get a good look as they were on a dump and run flight.
( and I find it hard talking watches when I am giving someone stick for not having the right paperwork 😗 )

A former colleague used to have JL Reverso bimetal gold (was stolen so she bought a Cartier white gold), another former colleague has a "van der Klaauw". Currently I work with people wearing Rolex submariner and Panerai. I'm always checking the wrist first.

Spotted a Breitling Transatlantic while touring the Capitol rotunda in DC. Also a nice Panerai on the guy sitting next to me at lunch the other day. Complimented both watches.

I spotted this 5513 on a older gentleman, at a flea market a week ago. I asked him about it, he said he bought it used 28 years ago, for $250. I asked him if people notice, once in a while they do. Later in the day, I was dropping off a preamp, and spotted a older hipster wearing a speedy in the shop. He said he bought it after college in 1981. I didn’t get a photo.

I've never commented on a wild-spotted watch, but I would have once if the guy wearing a vintage Speedy on a Swiss bus had turned around in time. Generally, I'm skeeved by "upscale"-looking people (like that Asian couple talking about shopping in Dubai🤦...and if this forum had a puking smilie, I'd use it for that). If someone looks like the watch is just part of an "upscale" ensemble, I'd never initiate conversation; but if it were someone like me in cargo shorts and a t-shirt (or some 50ish nutjob in a Metallica t-shirt holding a skateboard 😁), I'd start a conversation in a heartbeat.

Hardly ever around these parts. Although a Grandad at my kids U12s rugby game was wearing a 5513 he had bought in 'the early seventies' and had never left his wrist. He had worn it ever since whilst living in Papua New Guinea, & had recently received it back from service & was happy that they had "made it look like new again"...

There's also a hipster chick in town who wears an Explorer II, I haven't had a chance to see it up close but I suspect it is a fake.

Spotted a Speedy in the supermarket today! But I imagine anyone who owns one had it on today. Yesterday I took the vehicle in to Toyota for an oil change and the service guy had some kind of Tudor diver on but I didn't get a good look at it. They are out there!

Have seen a few DJs in the wild, spoke to a guy with a Pepsi when getting lunch, he was a pilot and super decent, work with a guy that wears an Arnold & Son as his daily and only watch ..absolute beauty!! A few that have Brietlings, one with an inherited DJ and a few Cartiers but only ever wears his Apple watch...👎 saw a few guys/gals wearing DJs and a Brietling at the jewelers the other day...definitely haven't seen many...dont think central OH is exactly what I'd call a watch hotspot😟 nearly forgot to mention I saw a guy probably in his 40s wearing an inherited Seamaster Meister signed dial on the plane a while back...definitely spoke to him😁 really decent guy, but not exactly into watches

Sitting in a restaurant last night, the guy sitting opposite me on the next table was wearing a rose gold Yacht Master, he was very engrossed with his guest a rather nice young lady, so I didn't talk.

On my first outbound leg a week ago the male flight attendant on the small Q400 was wearing a Batman. I was in the front row and during some small talk during the short flight I motioned to his watch and asked how he liked it. He quickly confessed to not being a watch guy, and that his spouse bought it for him for their 10th anniversary. He said he quite likes and used the GMT function and that he found out a few years after owning it that it was referred to as the Batman. While not being a watch guy, he seemed to appreciate the recognition (obviously not the first time it had happened to him) and it was a fun conversation.

I was at Toronto Bishop airport last Friday. High concentration of the Rolex watches of any kind. Nice looking female was staying next to me in line for check-in and were wearing DJ, Younger dude was wearing Milgauss, few guys with DJs and one Sub. Also, were a lot of TAGs around.
I love Toronto!!!!
P.S. I was wearing my Explorer II, so there were too many Rolex watches per square meter.

Currently in Whitstable on the English east coast. When I was sitting on the beach an hour ago, while I waited for my kids to finish their ice cream, I saw first a Rolex Daytona and literally the next guy coming by was wearing an Omega Ploprof. He was an elderly suntanned and very stylish man. It looked pretty cool on him. First time I have seen a Ploprof in the wild.

No link with your post, but where was your avatar shot ? I'm wondering everytime you're posting something, it looks like the quay in Exeter.

I spent a week in Cannes at the JW Marriott and that town is FLOODED with nice watches. That's not surprising for a town that has so many Benleys and Rolls Royces.

Over the course of my week I saw countless Subs (most six digit), Daytonas, and Sea-Dwellers. I was also lucky enough to see a number of AP Royal Oaks, and even my first two Aquanauts in the wild. I really geeked out when I saw my first 5968A in person. Wish I had taken some pictures, but I don't think most of these people would've been very receptive.

In Los Angeles, see Rolex as often as I see Apple watches. Just last week, saw a dude at a mall in West LA wearing an uber high-end AP ROO skeleton. Was at LA zoo recently and saw a handful of lady and men's datejusts. Was in a conference a few days ago and the guy that sat next to me had a gold Daytona. Plenty of high end watches everywhere.

I don't see too many out in the wild, and I'm in the LA area. One of the professors in the department I support has a vintage Seamaster. We've talked about it on a few occasions. Outside of that, pretty dry unless you head into the more affluent areas.

Link? Like photos? I didn’t feel like sticking my IPhone in his face while saying “Excuuuse me sir, I just need a quick one for Omegaforums” 😁

But here are some photos from Whitstable to ease the pain 😀. A charming little town. A bit too touristy for me but nice. Great seafood.

Btw my avatar is from a climping centre in Copenhagen

A very rare sight in my parts. I live in the northwest of England near Windermere or Morcambe and spotting a fine watch is almost never. We have one AD in our local area who sell Omega and have to travel 30 miles or so to find a Rolex dealer. It just goes to show where the money is. Its miles away from me. I still love checking out everyone's wrist to see thou. You can tell alot from a guys wrist

Quite literally saw one in the wild this weekend. Guy was hiking up The Angel’s Rest trail in the Columbia River Gorge in a 16753. I commented that he had a good looking Root Beer on and he told me he’d owned it for more than 30 years.

Didn’t get a photo of the watch, but I did get some of the views.
