Very fun posts/replies, not much to add on joke side, so I will do my usual boring long-winded response馃檮
I think this can be broken down to two major categories:
Constant collection growth
For hoarder / accumulator types, the only limit I believe is physical storage space or eventually cost and stress of maintenance...for this sort of collector there is pleasure in constantly increasing the collection over time. Personal financial annual budget (wife / family induced or not) and mean value of acquired timepieces will determine the rate of collection growth.
"Usage limited"collection
If you adopt a personal goal of having to wear all the watches in your collection, the min. frequency of wear / usage will be the limiting factor. There will always be of course a new watch be it vintage or modern that you will desire in the future. So the "usage limited" collector will eventually adopt a 1 out 1 in rule as he reaches his "usage" limit.
Personally I am currently on eleven watches and will reach twelve in 2018, and my rate of collection adoption has now slowed from 2/3 per year to one per year. For my collection my min frequency of wear is about a week every two months, excluding "dress" watches where my tolerance is higher to approx. a week every six months.
I really can't see myself going beyond 15 watches, but I am sure there are many here on the OF that are laughing right now at the rather ridiculous "certainty" of my statement.馃榿
