That’s cool how long did you do the rescue. When I got the brothers from the rescue they cost me 250 each but they were neutered and vaxxed so in reality it’s probably a little cheaper to get them through a rescue. I was also deeply appreciative to the volunteers working the shelter. They were caring for cats missing legs and eyes and cancer. I really wanted a white fluffy cat but I saw the brothers together in a small cage and I could tell they were brimming with energy and although well cared for I knew they didn’t belong caged. When they saw me take the brothers out of the cage they asked me if I could volunteer to which I would have loved to but the rescue is an hour from my place and my work schedule makes it to difficult but I won’t rule it out in the future. Too many people got animals during the pandemic they are dropping off at rescues. I’m sure they had good intent doesn’t make them bad people I just don’t think they thought it through all the way. Same with dogs they have a sister shelter with adult dogs I really wanted to get one but it would have been alone for 9hrs a day which I don’t think is fair to a new dog in a house. It is was a tough decision but it was Maharishi starring at me through his cage the entire hour I was there that sealed the deal. He just spent two days with me when I was at the height of my Covid which I appreciate.

From about 2002 till Covid hit, pretty well much. I was lucky because the (then) branch co-ordinator lives in the same village at me, so I could fit stuff in around other things. I gained a really good friend by her. I mostly did the media stuff (website, lost & found register, photographing all the new fosters and writing their profiles) as well as helping with fundraising. But I've also used my spare room on occasion to house the odd emergency foster.

That's how I ended up with Madam Lexi - she was the most spectacular foster fail ever. 😬

Our charges were £50 adoption fee, with each cat neutered (if over 4 months old), flead, wormed and vaccinated.

Your two boys are just gorgeous. 🥰 I used to have a little blue girl called Pearl - who did quite well on the show bench as a household pet BITD - which began a lifelong love of blue cats. Please do give your boys chin tickles from me. 😀

Darn she is young. Is that a common injury? I have never heard that before but I’ve only had one dog in my life. Sorry to hear for both of you.

Very common. I think the doc said it's the number 1 medical issue. It's not really an age thing, its more genetic, knee angles etc. Aside from the stress of your companion having to have surgery, its all good, except for the cost.

@fiberguy: More than 20 years ago, my dog Rosie had a torn knee ligament and needed surgery. At the time, the TPLO procedure was in its infancy, but we took that approach and had a great result. She was six at the time, lived an active life to nearly 14, and never needed surgery on the other knee. Best dog ever. 🥰

Great looking girl! Maya had a TTA which is newer than the TPLO procedure. Our specialist is highly accredited so we trusted their guidance. I do worry about the other knee, as they say it a pretty good possibility. Glad to hear your Rosie recovered so good.

Interesting, I wasn't even aware of the newer procedure. The recovery took a while, but she was fully back to normal afterwards. She played frisbee, swam, hiked, carried her pack in the mountains, and ran with me as I trained for marathons. Many years later after she was gone, the screws and bone plate were returned to me, and I still have them, tucked away with her coat and collar.

my dog had hers go out at age 10. Our vet agreed to try non-invasive methods first, because at that age surgery seemed like a heavy thing. Had a knee brace made for her, which she wore for a solid 9-12 months. Got another 4 great years together without issue before her other knee went out at age 15

We went to a wine and dogs event at a winery on the weekend. Had some wine and cider, had some food, had our two dogs in the off leash area - had to watch them closely as there was an aggressive dog there that got into it with 2 other dogs. In one case it attacked a male whippet, biting him pretty hard and he had blood pouring from the wounds on his face - not cool. 😡

Anyway, the puppy we babysat earlier this year (Bug) was there, and her owners wanted her to have a go at lure coursing...I took a video from the start end for them, and it was a good thing because one owner hit the wrong button on their phone down at the finish, so I sent this to them...

Unfortunately they don't give you a time and speed just for practice runs, but she looked pretty quick!
